hello cat here and much the same as technophobia,I can copy downloaded films to dvd alright but I can only play them on pc,not conventional dvd player. Can anybody help this silly in distress?thanks to anyone who can help,cat...........

Copying dvd compliant files to a disc will not play in standard desktop players and that's why you can only play them on the pc. It reads the file as data.

Not sure which applications you have but you can use EMC's MyDVD either in it's standalone version or with the Suite which offers you many other useful features.

You don't say what format the films are in.

If they're DVD Video (VOBs and IFOs and BUPs) they have to be written to a DVD Video compliant disc as Paul mentioned, if you want to play them on a set-top player.

If they're DivX or XviD AVI files, you will need to convert them to DVD before you can play them, unless you have one of the newer players which will play AVIs and MPGs straight off a data disc.
