Backup MyPC 7.x no longer sees my CD R/W Drive

Backup MyPC User

Question

I have a Dell Windows XP machine which has a DVD Reader drive and a CD Reader/Writer drive (both are operational). The CD R/W (indentified as HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B) has always been identified by Backup MyPC and I've been backing up for many months. I've got EMC 9.0 installed which installed Backup MyPC (v7.0.1 I believe).

All of a sudden, Backup MyPC no longer regcognizes that drive for some reason even though it is in the list. When you select it and start the backup, it indicates The specified device cannot be found. Make sure the device is plugged in and properly configured..

Then I saw a utility which was related to unrecognized drives: RXdisable and RXenable. Well after I ran RXdisable, the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B drive no long shows in the destination list (just the hard drive) and even after running RXenable, the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B drive does not show.

I've upgraded to Backup MyPC v7.1.0 (which uninstalls the old before installing) and still the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B drive is not recognized.

What is also interesting is that if I use the Roxio Backup that is part of the EMC 9.0 suite, it sees the drive and it writes the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B drive just fine.

Why can't the Sonic Backup MyPC recognize the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B drive any more? Is there some registry setting that got corrupted? I really don't want to have to uninstall / reinstall the whole EMC 9.0 suite, only to learn it still can not recognize the HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B drive.

Any suggestions anyone?
