I have roxio easy media creator 9 and I need help!

Question

I started out with a trial version of roxia EMC4 or 5, I upgraded to 7, then to 7.5 [online] and then online I purchased EMC9. I uninstalled EMC7 but I still have 7.5 online upgrade in add/remove programs, and when I defrag my hard drive it says that the entire file for EMC7.5 is fragmented and can't be defragged. Should I not have uninstalled EMC78, or do I need to uninstall EMC 7.5?

I'm also having troubles with certain programs like zingtone, I downloaded the trial version, and I made my ringtone, I sent it to my phone, it came in the form of an email address I think I can put into my phone browser, however T-Mobile was unable to help me. I want to purchase the xingtone program as long as I can get my one free ringtone to make sure it works!

As far as the other parts of EMC9, I wish I understood it better, I have an I-pod mini, I watch you tube, I have a motorola v3[pearl grey] T-Mobile phone, and I want to turn wmv video files into playable dvd's or some form of recordablle cds that will capture WMV video clips.

It's my understanding that roxio EMC9 can do all these things, but I can't figure it out to save my life!!! HELP PLEASE <removed to avoid spam>

Hope I can recall all of this but basically, EMC9 should install alongside 7.5 (so long as Drag to Disc is uninstalled first).

To remove the remnants - try booting in safe mode and uninstall all Roxio - follow the clean install procedures outlined elsewhere on the board and then remove the remaining files. Try the defrag after that

I can't answer re Xingtones (it never worked over here anyway)

Are you saying I should uninstall my online upgrade of 7.5? That will leave me with no disk for reinstalling, if I don't need 7.5 to run EMC9 then I can remove it in add/remove programs as it's still there. I just have never really understand how to use most of the programs on the suite before 9, and now I'm really lost!

Most of the time when you "upgrade" from one version of EMC to another it is best to remove the old version. However, there are some versions of EMC that can co-exist O.K. with a newer version. Ver. 7.5 should work with version 9, but not a guarantee. Most find it will however.

You suggested that if you uninstall your 7.5 upgrade you would have a original disc to reinstall if wanted. If you purchased your "upgrade 7.5" you should be able to re-download it by asking for the customer service and giving them some personal information about the original purchase.

You don't need ver. 7.5 to be able to run ver. 9. They are two different programs that do not need each other to run.

Do you still have the file for EMC 7.5 that you downloaded? And the EMC 7 disks that you needed to use the 7.5 update?

The reason I ask is EMC 7.5 needs to be uninstalled before installing EMC 9. Once EMC 9 is up and running, you can install EMC 7.5 again.

I installed the way you did, and some programs in both suites did not run correctly. I uninstalled both suites, went through all the registry cleaning and reboots, installed EMC 9, got it up and running, then installed EMC 7.5. All programs, in both suites, run correctly.

Does anybody have a phone number where you can actually speak with someone? I'm concerned because my upgrades were always done online, without a disc, and I'd like to speak with someone at roxio before uninstalling 7.5 upgrade and finding out I can't reinstall it. I have dell dimension desktop 4300 running windows xp sp2, IE7, 2 internal hard drives, 1-80gb and one 160gb, 512MB of ram, and a 1.66GHZ processor, with a pentium 4. I'm told that my pc is more than capable of running all the software from EMC 9, although I can't figure out how to turn WMV movie files into DVD's, I'm not even sure which program to use. A phone number would be great, and any advice or help is also appreciated! Bill

You can reinstall it, but you need the original installers. Even if you purchased online you should have saved the installer that you downloaded. I personally don't have access to sales records but if you are stuck I can at least check to see if we can still get ahold of 7.5 if you really need it.

I don't have the phone number, but I can tell you a couple of things.

First, your EMC 7.5 isn't going to work with IE 7 or WMP 11 on your computer.

Second, EMC 9 may not work, or it will work extremely slowly with that 1.66 GHZ processor.

You can now see why that any time you download a software program, you should burn the file to a CD. Maybe Roxio has a way you can download the files again, if you can provide proof of purchase, or you registered the software when you loaded it.

To burn wmv files to DVDs you simply add them as titles in EMC 7.5's DVDBuilder if you are still using that. Of course you have to uninstall IE7 first since it breaks EMC 7.5. If you want to do some editing first, use Videowave and then load your VW project into DVDbuilder.

I still have the upgrade for 7.5 on my pc, it doesn't show in add/remove programs but I still have the entire upgrade and all its folders on my smaller internal hard drive. I also see on the roxio site that it shows all the upgrades I've bought online, including EMC 7 and EMC 7.5. I found 7.5 in a folder on my hard drive even though it is no longer installed [i'm assuming since it's not listed in add/remove programs.

As for burning WMV files to DVD, until 9 all I had was divx to DVD which didn't work with WMV files. I tried to find a program that I could use to make my own DVD's of WMV files to no avail. When I try, it doesn't work! I have a cd rom drive and a dvd drive, but not a dvd burner, I was told that with the right software I could burn a WMV file to DVD or VCD, and that EMC 9 would do it! Is this true or false? My other question is should I just get rid of the file holding the upgrade to 7.5 or should I delete it and then try to get the code to re-download 7 and 7.5 after re-installing EMC 9, or should I just re-install 7.5 without 7 on top of it, or along with EMC9, which for the few simple things I know how to do works, [like burning a copy of a cd, or fixing a picture with the photo editor.

If it was me, I'd leave that 7.5 folder alone until you figure out if it's actually the upgrade install stuff or just leftovers from uninstalling it. What is the folder, and is there a setup.exe in the folder? If not, what exe's are in the folder?

As far as burning a DVD project to a DVD disc, you can't until you have a DVD burner, you can only burn VCD's or SVCD projects on CD discs with your CD burner. Something v7/7.5 is capable of as well as v 9 is.

What is the source of these WMV files? You should be able to use them in VCD project and burn to a CD unless they have some sort of DRM copy protection.

Until you get a DVD burner any discussion about DVDs is useless as is upgrading to EMC 9 if you are trying to burn DVDs. You cannot create DVDs without a DVD burner no matter what your source file is. The best you can do at the moment is burn a VCD or SVCD. EMC 7.5 will do that just fine for wmv files. Divx to DVD has nothing to do with wmv files
