MyDVD 6.1.6

Question

This thing is stupid. How do I make a PLAY button that will play the whole disc from start to finish AND have a chapter button that will display all the chapters and let you jump chapter to chapter? It only lets me have one menu for the video file unless I duplicate the file. Then it doesn't fit on the DVD. What gives? Why can't I create a button that jumps to an offset of the video? If I upgrade to MyDVD 9 will that have the feature I want? Does anything you sell have these features?

We don't sell anything here as this is just a users forum.

The older versions of MyDVD don't have the ability to create a Play All button as you described it. I'm not sure what you mean by "create a button that jumps to an offset". That sounds like setting a chapter point and that you want to create a button to go to that chapter point to start. Again, something you can't do with MyDVD 6.

Basically, it sounds like you want to do more complex "authoring" of the dvd menus. There are more options for some of that in MyDVD 9, which is included in EMC 9, which you could check out using the free trial of EMC 9. The only other product that Roxio/Sonic has that has complex control over dvd authoring is DVDit.

Complex? I want a single stream movie with chapter points. You can hit play to watch the whole thing or jump to a chapter offset. This is standard stuff on every DVD you can buy. How can that be considered complex? If MyDVD6 cannot provide these basic functions then it is incomplete.

The functions might seem to be basic to you but it might not be easy to implement a few years ago (MyDVD 6.x was released about 3 years ago). Also, "every DVD you can buy" is created by high end DVD authoring software. I'm 100% positive that no movie studio creates their DVDs with $100 level consumer DVD authoring software.

DVDit does more than I need. Does anyone know of software that does what I'm asking for? I just want to import an existing video file from my harddrive, set a few chapter points and cut it to DVD such that you can either watch the whole film or jump to chapter points. This doesn't feel fancy.

Thanks for responding. I know it's not your fault I assumed DVD software would allow me to make DVDs like all the other DVDs I own.

Your description in your last post makes it a bit more clear what you are asking. One button to play a movie, and one button to take you to a chapter menu to select a chapter to start from.

Again, I don't know of any way to do this with the "old" MyDVD 6, as it's more basic in it's authoring capabilities, as are/were many of the early home dvd authoring products.

Yes, DVDit can do that, and much more. You can also do what you want using MyDVD 9. So like I suggested, why not download the trial version of EMC 9, which includes MyDVD 9 in it's suite and give it a try.
