fweck
I'm using CD Creator version 5, which works well, except I can't burn a DVD on my computer with that version. So a few years ago I "upgraded" to version 7, and on the rare occasions when I need to burn a DVD, I 1. Install version 7 2. Burn the CD 3. Remove version 7 and go back to version 5 Why do I remove version 7? Because immediately after installing it, it disables the "My Computer" program in Windows XP. If I try to click on the "My Computer" icon, I just get a "program not responding message". Windows Explorer, which gives much of the same information DOES work, but I'm used to "My Computer". It would be nice to be able to use version 7. Is there any suggestion for this problem?
fweck
Thanks for your reply. I have both IE7 and WMP11 installed. I did a complete re-installation of Windows XP about a week ago and have been slowly adding programs. The first thing I did was to install all the windows updates (which included IE7 and WMP11). If I now try to uninstall IE7 and WMP11, I get warnings that all programs installed after that time, including any security updates, may not work. So, I'm left with Hobson's choice (i.e. no choice at all). My decision has to be to leave things the way they are (an unusable EMC 7). But your answer does give me information that will be useful the next time I do a Windows XP installation. I will then choose not to "upgrade" to IE7 and WMP11 (neither of which are important to me), and will then hopefully have a workable EMC 7. gi7omy
Both IE7 and WMP11 are backports from Vista and make fundamental changes to the Windows registry causing a lot of programs to fail (and not just Roxio) Uninstalling (despite the dire warnings) shouldn't affect anything else unless they are related to either of those (for instance toolbars for IE, codecs for WMP and so on)
Guest ml
Make certain that you have your Windows Automatic Updates set so that they will notify you of updates, but not download and install them without your permission. Internet Explorer 7 is a 'critical update' even though it's caused so many problems that Microsoft has the uninstall instructions on their website. If yes you will have to uninstall them since they break EMC 7.*
Question

I'm using CD Creator version 5, which works well, except I can't burn a DVD on my computer
with that version. So a few years ago I "upgraded" to version 7, and on the rare occasions when
I need to burn a DVD, I
1. Install version 7
2. Burn the CD
3. Remove version 7 and go back to version 5
Why do I remove version 7? Because immediately after installing it, it disables the
"My Computer" program in Windows XP. If I try to click on the "My Computer" icon, I just
get a "program not responding message". Windows Explorer, which gives much of the
same information DOES work, but I'm used to "My Computer".
It would be nice to be able to use version 7. Is there any suggestion for this problem?
