Update 8.05 Does Not Work!

leecrystal

Question

I've been using Roxio since Version 6. I have 7, but went to 8 and did not get 7.5.

So far I like version 8, that was until I installed the update last night.

Then I was working in the video editor only to have it continue to crash on me. It would run it for a while then as soon as I did a step like copy or delete, boom it would stop. :)

I keep getting a run time error.

I let the XP system send a report so that might help.

I guess I'll have to un-install it and re-install it just ot get it to work now.

Update 1/5/06

BTW it's a CD and not a download. I saw the notice. The update was an automatic notification.

I even downloaded the update manually and installed it just in case the previous one I had was bad.

It did not seem to make any difference. :D

The error says;

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library (Heading)

Runtime Error

Program: ...Files\Roxio\Easy Media Creator 8\VideoUI\VideoWave8.exe

R6025

- pure virtual function call

Did a library file not get updated while a call was?

The last time it happend I was trying to make a copy of test scroll to modify.

Good morning to you. :)

For myself (touch wood) its only ever happened so far when adding borders in photosuite. For others who bought it, the R6025 runtime error can occur when opening media manager, so far M.M hasnt crashed on me. Before the board was upgraded there were a lot of R6025 reports, but it never really got solved.

Interesting. If I get some time today, I will try to reproduce that, with borders.

Roxio/Sonic will never fix the R6025 runtime error, it happened in 7.5 all the time and they werent interested. They wont be interested this time either.I tried and had people try everything they suggested doing such as registering dll's uninstalling/reinstalling error after error on 6 different PC's all with hi end specs, but always R6025 . :)

This is quite a hassle and it should never be! I cannot install the EMC80_805_Update.exe without getting "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch." I have followed this particular Post and cannot see why Roxio/Sonic doesn't get it!!! It's a BAD PATCH!!! Come on, people...we purchase your product, you enable a community post and you don't review its contents? The "Live Chat" is a bust, even with only two people before me. Why are we strong-armed into a $35 charge for phone support? Heck, I haven't even gotten my rebate, yet! Good luck to all. This is what happens when one company buys out another and the product suffers as does tech support. Not very professional at all.

I was finally able to get Version 8.0 installed, thanks in part to postings here, but like others, I am also getting:

"I cannot install the EMC80_805_Update.exe without getting "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."

Considering the problems others are getting when they do get this to install. I consider myself lucky that it won't let me install this update. Hopefully Roxio addresses this and other problems with this version.

This is the same problem I have... I bought mine off the Shelf at Compusa and it has a sticker on it saying it was put on the shelf on 11/22/05 so the patch should work for mine - I get the same message. I also can't get any of the functions to work... everything freezes... and this is Easy Media creator 8... and the help tickets are worthless, they send fixes for 7.5... :) What a waste of $89...

I GIVE UP!!!

I have spent to much time just trying to get it to work.

It's not just the video editor either. I was able to work around that to some degree.

I was putting the DVD together and ran into other problems with animated thumbnails.

So in order to be able to get exactly what I wanted in the first place I will start over on version 7 and forget about 8.

I also noticed you better be careful when looking at version 8 files with version 7.

For some reason it must do something to the dat file.

I opened them in 8 after looking at them with 7 and get all kinds of errors.

I don't save them or anything though?

I was hoping to use some of what I already did.

I think the simple productions. (Just clipped video) might work ok. The more complicate stuff won't.

You don't really expect ver 8 files to be compatible in ver 7? I don't understand how you can look at dat files created in ver 8 with ver 7 since that version does not use them. With ver 7, all information is contained in the Videowave dmsm project files.

Ver 7 dmsm files though should have been useable in ver 8, in only very few cases I have been able a to load them into ver 8. I have also gone back to ver 7.5 to complete any project I started. New projects though I will do in ver 8 since I have no problems running ver 8.

That would be very kind of you :) I contacted Tech support last year and they suggested registering certain dll's but that didnt work. They then suggested Uninstall/Reinstall, that didnt work either. Then i hunted the net for others suffering this error and found quite a few ,most using photosuite which was interesting. Some days i can add a few borders, others it crashes with the runtime error. Might take a few goes to reproduce it. I added the patch then checked for the obvious error I got the last time in VideoWave. (Making the text longer in a text scroll would cause it to crash.)

It still worked? :)

So three things that might have been the factor.

1.) I had Sonic Record Now on the sytem before. (PC Came with it.)

2.) I did not have Roxio 7 on the system.

3.) I did not install the Contents CD.

I will install the Contents CD next and see what happens.

Everything is not rosy by any means.

I still have problems with the thumbnails working.

To give it a fair test I should make a new project from scratch and see if I can get the thumbnail to work. It's always possible that the project in question could have some coruption in it.

There is obvious some kind of conficts going on and Roxio needs to focus on this.

lovefam98,

Not necessarily. If you are already at 805, then it won't. You have to be at 800. Have you tried checking for updates thru the auto update function? What does it say? Have you checked yet to see what version you are actually at? Check it by opening Creator Classic, Disc Copier, or MyDVD then check the Help->About menu.

If it is current, then start a new topic with specifics about your issue, and include information about your system. OS, ram, video, etc.

I have RecordNow for Sonic pre-installed on my system.

I read on another post that it has DLA and that conflicts with EMC?

Could this be the root to all my problems????

If DLA and D2D are both installed, it will cause problems. They are both packet writing software, and you can only have one installed and active on one computer.

I have the retail version of EMC 8 (not downloaded but bought on CD). Every time I start some part of the program, the automatic updater interferes and, after a tedious delay, tells me that an update to 8.05 is available. No matter how many times I have tried to download and install it over the past few weeks, the process happens every time I start EMC -- every time. I can avoid it by clicking "cancel" on the Windows installer boxes several times, but that takes as long as waiting for the automatic updater to show up and then closing that box.

I have tried downloading the update manually from the Roxio web site and applying it manually. It doesn't make any difference. Even though the update appears to take hold, the automatic updater will inevitably start again next time, telling me that an update is available.

I have used EMC and its predecessors (all the way back to Adaptec days) and there has always been some hassle or other; this is simply the latest.

Possibly, this isn't entirely the fault of the Roxio folks; the weakest link in Windows (I use XP Home and Pro on my machines) is how it handles digital media.

Any ideas -- short of killing the program?

I have been using Easy CD Creator since Version 4.0. It seems that each versions has it's own problems. I was finally able to get Version 8.0 installed, thanks in part to postings here, but like others, I am also getting:

I installed XP pro on my system. I did not use my old HP restore disks. This way I wouldn't get all that extra junk they include on it. I thought I would get a beeter machine this way.

I installed the needed drivers for my LCD monitor and updated my Video card with the latest drivers.

Tweaked my msconfig to turn off the junk my printer software puts on my system. (Can't play online games with this. Screen would always change focus back to desktop for no reason. The software loaded something that checked the web ever 20 minutes or so.)

I installed Roxio 8 without the content disk and no update, before I installed my norton security software.

Now I don't get the R6025 runtime error.

Please Note: I was not getting it before the update either.

So I checked on another issue I had.

My Thumbnails still won't let me select where I want them to start at. I suspect I'll still run into some of the other annoying issues I've already ran into as well.

So I guess you have to wipe out your system re-install it then install Roxio 8, without the update to fix this problem.

I'm going back to 7 in the mean time until they fix this. I might even end up using something else. (I got Nero 7 with my DL burner.)

I restored it before the update.

I had to uninstall and re-install it. (It would not work)

I still have the problem, however I think I know what the real problem is.

In the old roxio you had a limit on the length of your text. I think This it what I'm hitting on this version. Funny thing is I didn't get this error before on the scrolling text. It took it all and my spacing without any problem.

Now after the update however there is a problem.

I'm wondering if a library file for the update was changed somewhere that's causing this. Sometimes the library files don't get taken out with an uninstall (They are suppose to with XP). The OS might be keeping the newest version of the file.

If I knew which DLL it was,and where, and if I could find the older version of it I could give that a try.

I tried to get it to crash, but I could not. Which border did you use? I will try it. I did not try all borders.

It happened to me and scores of others who made the grave mistake of purchasing Roxio 7.5 .

Before the board got wiped all you had to do was a search for errors and low and behold R6025 time and time again. And now it seems its evident in the latest version 8. Well done Roxio/Sonic. lmao.

As for PEBCAK ('problem exists between chair and keyboard) Dont think so, as it wasnt just me reporting this error over and over . :)

It doesnt matter which border i use, it just crashes. Frames are ok i think and custom borders, i think it could be to do with the content Disk !! really not sure, i installed everything bar Napster. :)

Thanks Again.

Web Ticket may take several days for a response and that may be very general in nature… That is why I suggested you call them.

You cannot infer anything just because you haven't received an answer yet.

That's fine, but I know they are going to want me to do it while I'm in front of my PC running Roxio. That's the problem. I don't have that kind of time during the week.

I'm a programmer myself so I believe this could be a real problem. That's why I was going to try some things on my own to prove it, however it will have to wait until I have the time.

I realize bugs like this take time to prove and resolve. I don't have a problem with that.

I'm just very fustrated and feel I've gotten a lemon product at this point and I'm being ignored.

I've always had an occasional crash when using Roxio programs in the past, but this is just to much.

I finally got a reply to my ticket.

I still don't think they have a clue. (Gave me a solution for 7.5)

Since I have there attention now I think I will apply the update and see what happens.

I was also given a link for a support survey. (This will be interesting.)

Stay tuned....

If you had the problem on 6 different computers, then there had to be something going on with all 6. I have no clue what it was, but maintenance comes to mind, or other software conflicting with EMC 7.5. EMC 7.5 has been rock solid on my computers.
