EM9 not burning

DiFivecents

Question

I am new to this forum and I am having a problem with burning a cd. I can load the data that I want to burn and click the button to start and the light will be flashing and the cd just spins. Eventually it will eject the cd and says to put in a new cd and make sure it's compatible with drive. I have used 3 different brands of cd's and still does this. I have used these cd's in this computer before successfully. I contacted Roxio support and received information back and I downloaded pxengine and tried to find the firmware for my cd drive to no avail. When I check MyComputer, it says my cd drive is a TSST Corp CD/DVDWTS H653LATA Device. I did a search and found nothing. I checked HP and found nothing. By the way my Computer is an HP Pavillion A1737C with Windows Vista . I have tried drag and drop of the data - light is on in the cd drive and does nothing. I tried using Windows Media to burn a disk - ejects and says to use the right media. I am using cd-r cd's. I checked the cd drive with a previously burned cd and it can read the data. This is a new computer - purchased in Feb 2007 and have given me no problems otherwise. Please, can any one figure out what is going on. I really need this drive to be working for backup of my data. Sorry I have not responded. Been one of those weeks. Finally had time to sit down and try all of the things that I have received from Roxio and HP and of course can't get anywhere. I finally tried uninstalling the cd drive with success - scared me. I found that Windows Vista had a feature where I click and it looks for updates on drivers and I did and it said everything was uptodate. I restarted the computer and when ready I went to the Roxio software and loaded the folder that I want to burn to the cd and it went through the steps and seemed to start but finally ejects and says to insert media that is compatible with the drive. I am using cd-r and I have used some from Staples and some from Memorex and used Maxell before this problem started. At a loss! Guess I will have to call HP and talk to them. Boy, after uninstalling and reinstalling and it seemed to be working I really had high hopes this would work. Computers! DiFivecents

It sounds like the burner is the problem. First, make sure that you don't have Drag to Disc running in the taskbar. Then, go to Device Manager, or whatever it is called in Vista, and Uninstall it, reboot, and see if Vista finds it again, then try to burn a disk again.

Are you saying to uninstall the cd burner? DiFive

Well, I tried to uninstall the cd drive with the device manager - rt clicked on the drive and selected uninstall. Computer tried to do that and it keep spinning along for half an hour and finally I used control alt delete and task manager to close it. I rebooted and tried to burn a cd and it went through all of the steps and it just kept spinning and spinning and had to stop it again. I am at a loss as to how to get this working. DiFive

Contact HP, and let them know that your burner is defective. They should replace it, or have you go through some tests on the burner to see if there is something that has been missed.
