Multy CD Project in EMC9 Classic

Mr.Deek

Question

Hey Guys,

I think this is a bug in EMC9 Classic but I just want to run it buy you to see if anyone else have had the same problem or is this a new bug?

I'm burning a 9.5 GB folder with 45 x 250 meg files.

Reproduction Steps.

Create a new DATA project.

Select a large folder and load the files to the DVD project ( Greater then one 4.7GB disk )

Select ( 4.7 GB disk type from bottom estimator )

select the properties of the disk and select the option "Do NOT split the files in a Multi-disk project".

burn the disk.

What I get:

Disk 1 Burns successfully.

Disk 2 - Please insert a 4.5gb or larger disk and stops...

The problem is that the the disks are 4.4 gig, however when creating the project it's basing the DVD sizes on 4.7 gb and thus splitting the files wrong! So when it get's to disk to it's trying to burn 4.5 gig and not 4.4 gig like the first DVD did correctly. I can confirm this by the Layout.rcl on disk one it burned as it lists the files allocated to each of the dvd's in the set and what disk they should be on.

Any suggestions are welcome!!!

Thanks again!

Deek

According to the Layout.rcl ( found on disk one )

Thanks for the reply ...

I'll try to get a screen cap of the messages I got ... Mine says I need a 4.5gig disk ( although I only have 4.4 ) while spitting out perficly good disks. I did find ... I can use the first disk any ways since I did not use the span disk option :) ...

A side topic - Related ... When using the DVD recovery software I noticed that if you try to recover a file that is on a different DVD then the one you have in, it just fails the files there is no option to "Retry" or prompt you to enter the correct disk? Seems silly if you're recovering a "dvd backup set". Is this correct functionally?

O and the .rcl file created on the "DVD" for the backup set ... if you open it in creator classic ... The headers are not "100%" compatible. The "Set / or DVD" disk name is not read in creator classic, and if you save the file again all the set information is lost instead of adding the new information! ( I was experimenting to find out if I could manually create disk 2 and 3 :) by fixing the layout.rcl

Thanks again

4 DVD project, lots of small files (like 3 thousand), the option is checked.

At the moment 2nd DVD burns OK.

May be because of small files rather than big???

Yes, that is our theory. Large files need to cut off on disc one and that large file pushes to disc 2. But that is too much for disc 2 and it would appear that the number of discs is locked in stone before the burning starts so adding another disc to the project is not an option.

If the initial calculation was more accurate, it would not be a problem…

It has been passed along but to be blunt, I doubt we will ever see a fix for it in this version!

Well I attempted to get as close as I could and did reproduce your results.

I ended up with Project of 35 files @ 259mb for 8.66gb.

Classic wanted 2 discs and burned the first one with the usual next disc box.

Of course I kept feeding it blank discs and it kept spitting them out asking for a 4.4gb disc…

It works as advertised when you allow it to span!

I will pass this along.
