Cannot get a bootable CD

flowergardener

Question

I need to make a slipstreamed bootable Windows XP PRO cd. I currently have a retail Windows XP Pro CD and the SP2 CD I bought from Microsoft. This bootable CD will avoid having to install all of the Windows updates again.

I found a program, Autostreamer, which creates .iso images and can merge Windows installation programs from the two CDs. I appears to work.

Am I using EMC 7.0 correctly? I clicked on Bootable Disc in the Tasks panel, then chose the Use existing image option and browsed to the autostreamer .iso file. Click OK.

The burn put two files on the CD: BOOTIMG.BIN and the XPIMAGE.ISO. This appears to be correct but it doesn't boot.

I notice that if instead I use the Burn from Disk Image File, that EMC unpacks the .ISO file into all of the components which look lsimilar to what I see on the Windows installation CD. Does this boot correctly?

I believe you can only have one bootable ISO per disk.

My note indicated that there was only one ISO on this disk.

You should just be able to take the iso file created by Autostreamer and use Disc Copier to burn a disc with. The resulting disc should be bootable if that's how you set up the image in Autostreamer.

I used the Burn from disk image option and it indeed unpacks the ISO file so it looks like a regular Windows Installation CD. It booted fine.

I had one problem: the registry was pointing to my O: drive (probably from a previous installation) so that periodically the repair installation kept asking me to put my CD in that drive but I was booting from my R: drive since the O: drive is broken.
