Newbie: Copying my first DVD

I just switched to MAC. We were under the impression that we could make back-up copies of our DVD collection. When we try to copy using Toast8, it prompts "The DVD is Encrypted and cannnot be copied." Any suuggestions and or direction will be greatly appreciated.

Commercial DVDs are copy protected. While it is lawful to make backup copies for personal use of some copyrighted materials, it is not lawful (at least in the U.S.) to break through any copy protection in order to make that backup. Therefore, Roxio does not allow discussion on its forums of the methods available to do just that. I'm sure you can find info by Googling using a phrase such as ripping DVDs on Macs.
