Slideshow: EMC9 or Photoshop Elements?

ElginApples

Question

I use Roxio's EMC9 on my Vista PC primarily for creating and copying disks and DVDs. I tend to use Adobe's Photoshop Elements for everything related to digital photos. I see that both programs offer the ability to create a slideshow from digital images and to burn the slideshown to DVD for playback on a TV.

Is either one of these programs better than the other one for slideshows? Does one program do certain things related to slideshow creation and burning to DVD any better than the other one?

I would like to find out the benefits of one program over the other before I spend too many hours on this important project, but I don't want to buy a dedicated 'slideshow software'. Can you help with advice?

I wouldn't say 'better', but just different in how they achieve the same thing. Although I own PSE4, I've never used that feature so I'm not familiar with how it creates a slideshow.

There are two methods:

Most apps will create a 'video DVD' which would be compatible with more players. This resizes all photos so you will lose some quality.

2nd method uses the DVD player's built-in ability to show JPEG files. This is less compatible because some players may not have this feature. The disc is nothing more than a data DVD with some info for the player. When creating a disc like this with Videowave, you can have music, but you can not use any transitions. Viewing quality is best this way.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I am looking to "piggyback" off someone's experience in having used both the Roxio and the Adobe programs to create slideshows on DVD. I would like to create the stand-alone slideshow (the video DVD) that runs like a movie/video when put into a DVD player. It looks like I have some homework = testing to do.

Where can I read the "How To" steps for creating a slideshow?

Where can I find some tips for creating a "great" slideshow?

I forgot to mention that I think that Photoshop only does wmv files and I thought burned only to vcd.

First look at the EMC 8 tutorials on the Roxio web site then look at the information I suggested in my first reply. Here is a link to the tutorials, V8 and V9 are similar in how they run. Watch the one on VideoWave. Here is the link to the how to;and here is a link to the demo videos.

Do not use one of the Slide Show Assistants. They are similar to what is in Photoshop. In the future, if you just want to make a down and dirty slide show, you can use the Assistant under the photo tab on the Roxio Home page. .

Think of VideoWave, which is part of EMC 9 as a dedicated slide show program - then think of it also as a video editing program and then finally think of it as a combination of the two - images and videos in one project.

I own both (and others) but for me VideoWave, part of EMC rather than Photoshop does it for me. It thinks the way I do and has the ability to do slide shows with audio, narration, overlays, transitions and special effects.

Photoshop Elements is a very good image editing program that just happens to have slide show capability.

Read "one way of doing it" and watch the demo videos in the Tips and Tricks area of this forum.

With the combination of VideoWave and MyDVD for creating your DVD with navigations, I think it gives you much more.

Either will do a down and dirty quick slide show.
