Vista Installation Problems

JeffIowa

Question

Alright, I canned my old computer and got an HP with Vista (specs at bottom).

I'm having problems getting "Easy CD & DVD Burning" (in the red box that's supposedly Vista friendly.TSID

#removed for your protection) installed. When the installation is almost complete I get the following error:

errorki8.jpg

If you click "close program" it tells you Roxio has finished installing and asks for a reboot. After rebooting, I try and launch and I get this error:

errrrrpp8.jpg

Ok, I checked out the Roxio knowledge base and it suggested a "clean install" after completely uninstalling it all first. (see article = "Clean Install Instructions for Creator 9 on Windows Vista" ID Number: 000127CR)

I completed all the steps for wiping it out, including the reg hack. After that it suggests turning off Windows Defender and trying to reinstall the program. Well, after all that, I'm still getting the same error. :angry2:

Any help would be much appreciated. Jeff

I removed your TSID # to protect you since others could use it---Beerman

Ok, so I removed my last post because you had some valid points. Here are my thoughts though:

1) This is a Microsoft installer and it uses components built into windows vista itself to preform the installation

2) It is unlikely that this is a problem with either the roxio software or Microsoft's installer

3) There is likely something on your system that is either preventing the installer from working properly or is causing erratic behavior on the system.

Personally if it is a rather new system I would reinstall windows fresh on it and choose to eliminate any software that came preinstalled on the system. Of course it is up to you if you want to go that far.

Thanks, John. Already tried that. Running as lean as I could tweak it.

I've discovered that the fix is to run the desired program (Sound Editor, Creator Classic, etc.) as Administrator: right-click on the shortcut on the Start Menu and choose "Run as administrator". This has fixed the "Trial version has expired" errors I was getting with EMC8 and also "Certificate missing" errors with EMC7.5. Should work also for EMC9. Apparently Roxio attempts to write registration information to what Vista considers protected areas in either the registry or file system, and running as Administrator allows it to happen.

I do not yet know if it's necessary to run as Administrator every time you use EMC or only the first time. I'll figure that out eventually, but I wanted to post this right away in case it can help someone who's tearing their hair in frustration, as I was.

Also, I did this after a fresh reinstall of EMC. I don't know if this fix will work otherwise.

Lots of views, no replies. :( ...hope someone is relating. Because putting help tickets in at Roxio's support site is like sending letters to santa

I don't have this program and most likely can't be of help but if your new HP already came with some Roxio software, did you also remove that in the clean install? If not, uninstall the software that came preinstalled, follow the clean install again and then install your new program.

Make sure you have copy of the preinstalled program from HP in case you ever want to put it back on!

A reply! Thanks!

I've done the whole windows unistaller/clean install business a few times with the same result. I even copied the disc contents to a c:rox folder and ran setup from there. No luck.

Maybe I should just completely boycott roxio products. I had trouble with this program and my old pc also. ALL I want to do is make dvds with menus, ect. Windows DVD maker is poor and it only burns directly to disc, no HD option. I have "arcsoft showbiz dvd 2" but that prog is questionable and that's why I tried roxio out in the first place.

Moral of story:

I've had this "red box vista ready" roxio product for about 2 months and after hours on here and hours dealing with the outsourced robots feeding me stuff at roxio's support home (help tickets via email), I've still never even got the program to load. I even bought a new pc!

No offense to anyone on this board, but roxio's tech support gets a 2 out of 10 ranking from me!
