Well, having trouble with Roxio again darnit. Home window works fine, click applications and they run according to windows task manager, but I can't do anything or the application disappears. For example if I double click on an existing videowave project, the window pops up then disappears. If I single click on Videowave from the tools menu on the home page it will open but will be an unusable grey screen, no preview pane or anything. When I check Windows task manager, it says videowave is running fine. Capture does similar things.
I have tried uninstall reinstall, rename media manager folder, register dao registry key. I had this problem before and was able to fix it so I thought by getting rid of some malware using windows live scan on microsoft.com. Well, the source of the problem is not apparent. I had recently installed Quickbooks pro and had uninstalled it, then uninstalled and reinstalled Roxio, did all the fixes listed above and Roxio magically started working after the live system scan from microsoft.
Last week I reinstalled Quickbooks (wife needs to work at home) and darn if Roxio stopped working again. I am starting to think quickbooks did something to windows that affected Roxio. So I thought, unistall and reinstall Windows xp service pack 2. Updated all the security fixes for xp, ran TrendMicro, Spybot, windows antispy. Still to no avail, roxio is dead at the moment.
I have some thoughts of the problem, perhaps Quickbooks changed something in Windows xp that conflicts with Roxio, maybe 512 MB of Ram is not enough because Quickbooks assigned too much to itself or something.
I really just am at a loss, I have heard that Intuit programs cause trouble on Windows machines and I had no trouble with Roxio until I installed Quickbooks. The bummer part is last time when I uninstalled Quickbooks, Roxio still didn't work. If you have read this far thank you and I look forward to any other ideas for fixes people might have before I shell out 35 bucks to call Roxio. Also, I need to leave Quickbooks on my computer for my wife. There is no apparent reason that quickbooks and Roxio can't co-exist.
