SVCD will not play in Windows Media Player

lynnie64

Question

Me again....more problems.

I got the burning situation figured out, since I don't have a DVD burner I made a slideshow on VideoWave using the SVCD format and burning it on to a CD-R disk. (I would rather be making a DVD, but that isn't possible now, so I will have to stick with this SVCD format for now until I get a DVD burner.)

Anyway......when I played it back in my computer in Windows Media Player, it played just fine. (YAY!) However, my husband took it up to his work to show the folks there the slideshow. They tried it in about 5 different computers there in Windows Media Player, and NONE of them would play the CD. They even checked the format version on WMP and it had the VCD, SVCD, etc. A couple guys there are fairly computer knowledgable, and they could not figure out why it wouldn't play. They finally took it to a new DVD player that plays all formats of disks, and it played on that with a projection screen. (It also will play on my DVD player at home on the big screen TV).

He then took it over to a friends house who has a computer that isn't new, (like the ones at his work are.) It is about 6 years old like mine is. It wouldn't play on his computer either. So, the ONLY computer this SVCD will play on is mine. ??????

I am wanting to make copies of this CD to give to friends and family, but it isn't going to do me any good if they can't watch it on their computer. Why will this CD play in my WMP but no other WMPs? Am I not doing something when burning? It burns just fine and then the project says "complete", and then the CD drive automatically opens up when it is done burning.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Lynne

Lynne,

place the svcd in a drive. Open WMP and click file, open, from the drop down box, 'Look In', navigate to the drive, highlight it and some folders should show up. Click the MPEGAV folder click open, then 'from file of type' at the bottom of WMP click Any File and a AVSEQ01.DAT file should appear. highlight it and click open and WMP should play the file in any pc.

I did do that on my computer just to give it a try, since that is what the Roxio support said to do.

I guess my concern is that a lot of people I am sending this to know little to nothing about computers. I am kinda hoping that I don't have to send instructions for them to change their WMP settings.

Is that my only hope or is there another way for "computer illiterate" folks to get it to work?
