Video Wave 9 - invalid file

mnelms

Question

I have EMC 9. I started a new production in Video Wave , I inserted one jpg file. I got the message "The current production is empty or contains invalid files." The preview will not play. It does put the jpg on the storyboard line and if I select it, it does display in the previewl menu, but I can't get any production to play in the preview.

I have activated the mpeg-2 codec (although I would think that is irrelevant). I have downloaded Directx 9.0. I have installed the latest driver for my video card. I have uninstalled MyDVD 6 and Easy Creator 5 in case there was a conflict. I have reinstalled EMC 9 and rebooted my computer. Same results.

Without getting past this first hurdle I can't even begin to tell if I would like this software. Does anyone have any other ideas I can try or do I abandon and go back to MyDVD 6?

Well, It eliminates one possibility. :)

Tell us a little about the jpeg images. Where did you get them? Are they jpeg - baseline standard or progressive or optimized, as a jpeg 2000 file or as a TIFF with jpeg compression or something in between.

Try opening the image with Photosuite and then save it as jpeg or png. Try that. If the image won't open, then there is something wrong with the image(s).

I really appreciate your help. I was working with a trial version of the software - at least I think I was since Roxio has no record of my purchase - but I have decided to not purchase EMC 9 and will stick with MyDVD 6 for my needs at this time. I have spent way too much time and effort to get this to work and if the answer is that the jpgs coming off my PowerShot Canon digital camera that I bought in November of last year are "invalid files" than this product is not for me.

Thanks anyway.

Something else going on. My son bought a Canon PowerShot camera for Wedding and Honeymoon and I can download and use those images as is.

Were you doing any image editing? That's where the other formats would have come from.

One more thing are you talking about an individual image or groups of images or are you talking about Mjpeg? Mjpeg is the format that cannon uses for their video. I do not believe that V9 or any other version will handle a mjpeg.

I did uninstall the nVidia device driver before downloading and installing the one online which I got from the nVidia site.

The DirectX diagnostic tool gave me this information for my GeForce FX 5200 video card

Main driver: nv4_disp.dll

Version 6.14.0010.9371 (English)

Date: 10/22/2006

Does this help diagnose the problem?

As you probably found out, this error is usually associated with a problem with a video card/chip. You indicated that you did update both DirectX 9c and the drivers for your card. Did you remember to delete the old drivers before you installed the new drivers (with all the reboots)?

Please post your card and driver information. Go to Windows>Start>Run>(type in) dxdiag>OK. When the window opens - it will take a minute to do the diagnostics - the go to the display tab. One the left will be your video set up and on the right will be the driver number and date. The post the information here. The driver will be the last four digits in most cases.

Also, did you get any warnings about your video card when you first started the program/ If you can open VideoWave, go to the top menu, select tools then options and put a dot near software; try again.

There is also an old knowledge base article about using certain jpeg formats. Perhaps that may also be part of the issue. That's for Version 8 so it may not be applicable to Version 9
