aloco1
Hello, I've suddenly developed problems with hanging EMC7 applications. For example, I can no longer access Creator Classic and Disc Copier. Attempted accesses through EMC Home yields "please wait,... loading component" and produces a hang. Aceess to one of these applications through the Start Menu yields the appropriate application splash screen and produces a hang. I can't even "end process" on the creator7.exe task (it will drop from its peak memory of ~30MB down to ~500 KB but will not disappear in the process window). Until last week these applications worked. I have not installed any new software. I have to add that I've never had a smooth install with EMC7. The installation will always hang at the same point - shortly after the installation status message states "writing system registry values" (accompanying a full progress bar). Months ago, by pure accident, I discovered that the installation could be jump started by clicking "end process" on one of the msiexec.exe user tasks (~6MB).The installation would start, display messages about publishing info., removing backup files, and display a successful conclusion. I have no idea if the installation was truly complete. However, it worked ! The applications were accessible. After the recent problem surfaced, I tried a repair install from add/remove programs and it hung at the same point ! I've also tried a full removal and reinstallation without any success. I hope someone from Roxio reads this. I know this is considered an "old" product. If not, maybe someone else has the same loss of application access in a newer EMC product and they can pass on a solution. Guy Brosseau
Hello again, Problem solved !!! First, I do not have IE7 or WMP11 installed. Second, I did a clean install, but nothing changed. Third, I disabled my startup programs - still no change. Finally, I disabled several Windows services - and Creator Classic started! I will have to research which services I can disable. Why the installation hangs will remain a mystery. Thanks, Bob Hi, I'm having very similar problems. I'd be very interested in finding out which windows services are to be disabled fore th thing to work Thanks Guy Brosseau
TOTG
Step 1) Remove IE 7 and WMP 11. (instructions) Step 2) Test 'er out Step 3) (If step 2 failed) Clean Install
grandpabruce
I think that some of the problems during install may be due to the computer that you are using.
lynn98109
Bruce has a point. Altho the minimum requirements for audio recording and data are PIII 500MHz and 128MB, a program (any program) will usually work better with resources that exceed that minimum. If you are running a screen-saver, AV program, internet connection, etc - that will reduce the resources available. Minimum requirements And, as implied by TOTG, if you have allowed Windows auto-update to download and install IE 7 or WinPlayer 11, you have put some elements of Vista on your system - they take up resources and also "break" EMC 7 by putting files in the registry with the same name but different contents. This isn't adding new information so much as trying to explain why earlier suggestions should be helpful Lynn

Guest ml
Hello again, Finally, I disabled several Windows services - and Creator Classic started! I will have to research which services I can disable. Why the installation hangs will remain a mystery. Thanks, Bob Glad you got it to work! It sounds like you're getting low on computer resources. You might try restarting your computer before you try another install. You might also want to do a Custom install and only install the programs that you actually use. I'd suggest installing Creator Classic only at first. You can always do a Windows Add Remove Programs\ Roxio\ Change\ and install each program til you find out which one give you the error. Also, I hope you're doing the 'basics' - defragmenting your hard drive, checking for spyware and malware and restarting your computer to clear out your RAM memory occasionally. Hello,
I've suddenly developed problems with hanging EMC7 applications.
For example, I can no longer access Creator Classic and Disc Copier.
Attempted accesses through EMC Home yields "please wait,... loading
component" and produces a hang. Aceess to one of these applications through
the Start Menu yields the appropriate application splash screen and
produces a hang. I can't even "end process" on the creator7.exe task (it will
drop from its peak memory of ~30MB down to ~500 KB but will not
disappear in the process window). Until last week these applications worked.
I have not installed any new software.
I have to add that I've never had a smooth install with EMC7. The installation
will always hang at the same point - shortly after the installation status
message states "writing system registry values" (accompanying a full
progress bar). Months ago, by pure accident, I discovered that the installation
could be jump started by clicking "end process" on one of the msiexec.exe
user tasks (~6MB).The installation would start, display messages about
publishing info., removing backup files, and display a successful conclusion.
I have no idea if the installation was truly complete. However, it worked !
The applications were accessible. After the recent problem surfaced, I tried
a repair install from add/remove programs and it hung at the same point !
I've also tried a full removal and reinstallation without any success.
I hope someone from Roxio reads this. I know this is considered an "old"
product. If not, maybe someone else has the same loss of application
access in a newer EMC product and they can pass on a solution.
