Does anyone recognize this error?

marole

Question

I have Suite 7 and it installs and works -brand new computer- I have 8 but it won't install, I keep getting this error message within about 2 minutes into the installation. I need the 8 to burn to DL DVD's because 7 only burns my home movies to single layer. Anyone know how to get passed this error or what might be conflicting with 8 and not 7.

I have a Dimension E521-dual Core. Already Vista ready but I don't like Vista I stuck with XP. I have Roxio Suite 5,6,7, and 8. They all ran fine on my old machine. Now I can run 7 but can't burn to DL disks, and 8 won't install right and I can't figure out why. I don't want to have to purchase 9 and if I did would it install without the same problems? I did find out that with the new machines, because I have other Roxio products on this puter I have to rename the Roxio Shared folder so that 8 makes it's own folder, but still movies I do in 7 won't open right in 8 because the two don't have the same video effects. 8 has about 75% less stuff to work with than 7. I'm thinking if I have to purchase more I will switch brands, cuz I do this a lot and I'm tired of the frustration.

The 120 MB update for version 7 (7.1.1.189) did allow burning DL discs.

Ya, I didn't recognize IE7 as being internet explorer7, I wasn't sure what came with the puter. I use Media player 10-I'm used to it so I didn't upgrade. I'm going to try a different movie editing software, one that hopefully is compatable with newer softwares, (and my computer). Thanks for any assistance.

I've not seen the error but if you're brand new computer has Vista, you're out of luck. If it's XP and you have IE7, you're out of luck.

Much more info on what you're system is would be helpful.

You missed Paul's other point, namely that if you installed Internet Explorer 7 and/or Windows Media Player 11, it effectively kills EMC8. Both these are backports from Vista and change the XP kernel and cause problems with other software
