Tom at Roxio
I have vista and roxio creator DE version 9.0.116 I need help in burning a VOB file. I can watch this movie on windows media player, but can not burn it. Why? Hi Leona, A VOB is a bit more complex than an MPEG stream. A VOB contains all of the audio, video, and subpicture content for a VTS (Video Title Set). There is one VOB per VTS, and a DVD-Video can have up to 99 VTS's. Each VOB file entry has a name like VTS_01_1.VOB. This would be the VOB for VTS 01. While it may look like you have more than one file per VTS (VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB) these are just extra file entries called "extents"... a VOB can actually hold up to 9 Gigabytes. So all of the "files" that start with VTS_01 and end in .VOB are part of a single VOB. An MPEG stream, on the other hand, has only one video and one audio stream. A VOB can have multiple video angles, up to 8 audio streams, and up to 32 subpicture streams. The full version of Easy Media Creator 9 has an application that can do what you want (unfortunately, it's not in Creator DE). It's an application labeled "Compile DVDs and Movies". When you choose your VIDEO_TS folder (that contains the VOB), you will be able to copy any portion of your DVD to a new video compilation project. This is a great tool that allows you to take an existing DVD and delete unwanted portions, or combine parts of multiple DVDs into one DVD. Leona70
You need to set Windows to allow you to see hidden files and extensions. This tutorial is very easy to follow. Once this is done, you should be able to change from .vob to .mpg. Hey thanks for that info, it worked, I changed the file. But now another problem, In roxio...I can now find the file, but it keeps saying to put in a blank or rewrtieable cd-which I have. Why is this happening? Do you know what can I do to fix this? Johny
Burned and tested in EMC 9, but no cigar... Use Roxio EMC 9 Creator Classic Disc and Device Utility, on James 'UDF No Bridge' disc and Creator will call it single session mode 1 data. Burn the same Audio_TS folder and VIDEO_TS folder in disc copier Video Complication mode, Creator Classic Disc and Device Utility, will call it Video DVD Format. Two settops I have tried Sony DVP NS70H and JVC XV FA95 will not play the Disc made as a data 'UDF No Bridge' in Creator Classic, I get, invalid DVD navigation error and no audio no data error. The Video DVD Format disc's made in disc copier Video Complication mode play with no problemo, in the Sony DVP NS70H and JVC XV FA95. I have a friend with a Phillips that will play the 'UDF No Bridge' disc, he claims the player will play anything. My players will play all DVD Video I have burned in Roxio, Nero, or ImgBurn programs, designed to burn a Video DVD Format compliant disc. All show the same in Roxio EMC 9 Creator Classic Disc and Device Utility, and call it Video DVD Format, except 9 Creator Classic 'UDF No Bridge' way. No sniping, just wasted disc's and the facts. cd I have Koss DivX player and I have yet to find a disc which this one will not play. Oh, I know one, it does not play *.mov :-) otherwise it played everything I threw in even mixed formats AVI,VOB,MPEG in both PAL and NTSC on one disc. But that does not solve the original problem, which is, that OEM version of EMC 9 is too stupid to have a simple function "burn DVD" where you choose pre-compiled VIDEO_TS folder or it's content and it will burn it. ( Nero Express 7 I was using on my old XP comp has just that). Reading previous rather complex posts with lists of players who will/will not play and "bridge/no bridge" parameters set etc, I still think that the VERY SMALL AND SIMPLE freeware utility (tested by myself under Vista) which will create *.ISO file from your VIDEO_TS folder and then burning that ISO file in EMC 9 Disc Image Burn (=2 steps, NO PARAMETER SETTING at all) is the simplest way how to work around above mentioned stupidity of OEM version. By the way, do you feel as cheated as I do by those OEM restrictions? Johnny...

Brendon
Very few folks would be writing sessions for a DVD Player… I don't understand what you were doing, would you go into a little more detail? I do recall reading warnings in the DVD Player manuals, with regard to Audio CDs, that only the first session would be recognized. Also there are differences in 'dash' and 'plus' media. Were both discs the same? Hello again, I was storing video clips on a data DVD to watch later or watch again later on my tv. The DVD players will play AVIs and MPGs. I had no trouble adding further clips to an RW and playing them on the DVD player, but on an R disc (+ or -) the additional clips wouldn't appear or play on the DVD player. The DVD behaved normally in the computer, but the set-top player wouldn't see additional sessions on a writeable disc. A 'feature' of the player firmware, I guess, but a trap if you only use RWs for testing. This has really wrecked my day! I tried a +RW and a –RW and none were readable using Classic! Then I loaded V8 – same result. Then I removed SP2 and the +RW was readable but only on one Player (Panisonic) Then I tried to install V6 after removing V8 and got into one of Windows I can't, I won't, I still can't, I still won't loops with the install… backing up files for reformat! james_hardin
It is possible to burn VIDEO_TS wiles with Roxio Creator DE Roxio Creator DE Version: 9.0.116 Build: 901B16M, DL2 And other versions; Only you have to do a few extra steps, will only take 20 seconds or so: -Start Roxio Creator DE -Choose Data -> Data disc -Drag your VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders (with the VOB files in it) to the right window where it says ' drag your folders here'. -Click on options -Change the file system to: ISO+Juliet+UDF -Click OK -Click BURN And your done. brian69420
Not sure if that's a regular retail version of EMC 9 they sold you, but it would seem like it should be from that description. Did they install it for you, or did you have to install it after uninstalling the Basic one you say it came with? Have you tried going to Start -> Programs -> Roxio 9 -> Copy ->.... to see if Disc Copier is listed there? Keep in mind, only the Disc Copier app can do a copy burn of folders to a dsc, the home app you pictured can't. It couldn;t in v8 either. EMC 8 btw is not Vista compatible. Yes it did come pre-installed on my computer but I as I always do with a new computer I re-installed everything from the OS on up. They sent me discs for re-installing the apps one disc was the Basic or DE version and the other was the "Premier" version. I'm starting to think that Dell mislead me when selling me the "deluxe" version. I think I might take this up with them. Thanks for the input. brian69420
Go to Start -> Programs -> Roxio 9 -> Copy -> Disc Copier In Disc Copier make sure you ae in the CD & DVD Copy view, then under the Source, select DVD-Video Folder, browse to your Video_ts folder. A am having similar problems... I can't burn the video_ts folders either. I am running Roxio Creator Premier which has disc copier built into the suite. I used to use ECM8 (downloadable) which I purchased from Sonic. Disc copier appeared to be a seperate program from the main software suite. I was able to select the video_ts folder and burn the DVD. It would even compress the video as needed to fit a DVD-R. I can't seem to be able to accomplish the same thing using Roxio 9. I can find where to burn an image, not requiring a "disc" copy, but it will only copy disc images such as .iso, .gi, .c2d, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope these pics show up and help anyone understand what's going on.

It seems that you did not read my previous entry :-). Download FREE little utility named "Folderburn" (google it for download page)-Than run it choose whatever folder has the video_ts then click on "Burn" - that opens a menu where you need to choose "Video DVD". In following dialog you need to re-choose the video folder - Do not choose the actual VIDEO_TS. You must choose the parent folder containing VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS (audio is usually empty, but the program requires it as it is required by DVD player to be on the disc). The utility will now create the VIDEODVD.ISO in that parent folder. And as you found, you can burn .iso file in media creator 9. Hope it is clear now, have fun John Yes, I did read your post. It may say I'm a "Newbie" but I'm no noob. Anyways, thanks for the input but my issue is not having to have numerous programs complete one project. EMC9 is a software suite that should be at least as complete as the previous versions. EMC8 was able to accomplish the tasks I needed but unfortunately it isn't Vista compatible. (ty Larry) Anyways, I appreciate your help. :-)
Larry
Those are pictures of the Roxio Home copy app (based on Sonics RecordNow technology) which is not the same as the Roxio Disc Copier app. Since you had the retail version of EMC 8 you had that Home app one also, but you also had Disc Copier from the sounds of it. Question is, where did you get the version 9 product you have? It looks like an OEM one, which would have limited capabilities and not all apps included, depending on what the OEM decided to include. Tom at Roxio
Thanks so much Tom, you are very helpful. So if I update my creator De to EMC9, would that solve my problem? Hi Leona, I would need to confirm what you are trying to accomplish by burning this VOB. I am guessing that you want to create a DVD-Video disc that you can play in any DVD player. Also - do you have the whole DVD image (the VIDEO_TS folder), or the original DVD? You'll need this. It is tough to decode the VOB properly without the information (IFO) file that is with it in the VIDEO_TS folder. Lastly - is the VOB from a copy protected DVD? You can't do anything with it if it is copy protected. Tom

Johny
Yes, I did read your post. It may say I'm a "Newbie" but I'm no noob. EMC8 was able to accomplish the tasks I needed but unfortunately it isn't Vista compatible. (ty Larry) Anyways, I appreciate your help. :-) Well.... EMC retail version WILL do it... EMC pre-installed on computer when you bought it (aka OEM version) (same like myself) is NOT full EMC version and it will NOT do this particular task. End of story. I do not like it and I feel "cheated" by the manufacturer, but that is all I can do. The only way how to burn DVD video with preinstalled OEM version of EMC 9 (as I learnt the hard way) is to import original MPEG videos INTO EMC (into MyDVD) and let it re-compile and burn. The OEM version (missing Disc copier stand alone utility) will NOT let you select VIDEO_TS folder and burn it as a video. You can choose and burn that folder as a data DVD only and I think (never tried, just think) that it will not play in the table DVD player (it will play in computer though). So you have basically three choices: 1. - the hard way - import raw video files and let ECM do the compilation again 2. Use ANOTHER program to create DVD image (.iso) file and burn that file. Again, OEM version ECM missing VideoWave etc. will not create .iso file from VIDEO_TS folder. Only during re-mcompiling you can choose either burn disc or create .iso file. You DO NEED third party program for that (The one I suggested is the simpliest and smallest I found - I tried about 4 different ones. and this is legally freeware and does work with Vista) 3. Upgrade and buy full retail version EMC or try Nero (Nero 7 has problem with Vista and same as you and ECM 8 I did use Nero Express 7 exactly for this simple burning task on my computer with XP.. Dunno anything about later Nero version) Hope it helps. There is one more choice - hehe.. be mad as I am about this stupid OEM version restrictions and you can kick the computer and the whole ECM OEM version all the way where it belongs (will rather not specify here), but that will not burn your movie (at least it did not burn mine:-)) Have fun John

Johny
Sorry, my OEM version does not have Disc copier I have only Roxio Creator Basic, My DVD basic and Express labeler There is in menu in creator basic for "Copy" but that does NOT allow me to choose the source. It can "copy" ONLY from the disc, not from folder on HD :-(. Well. Thanks for your answers anyway.... I hope I won't offend people here (and I really do not intend to), but I have to say, that in my personal experience, Nero is 100x better than roxio in even the very basic functions (I've had OEM Roxio before with my old computer (still for Wind ME) as well and than I got OEM Nero with my old DVD burner and now I have Roxio again witn new comp with Vista. And in the time I had Nero, I never run into task which I was unable to do or find EASY solution. With Roxio on the other hand, there is lots of things, I couldn't do the simple way. I'm just hesitant to install the older OEM Nero I've got with the DVD burner 2 years ago, because that was BEFORE Vista and I'm not sure about the compatibility. And I have no money to buy new Nero Suite, otherwise I'd do that right away, so I'm kinda stuck with Roxio till I win a lottery Anyway, as to return to my problem - there is "burn image" command, so I think, I could convert the VIDEO_TS folder into DVD structered "image" and than burn it. Anyone has any idea, if there is freeware utility which would do that conversion? I guess (never tried, but just guiess), that if I burn folder VIDEO_TS as Data folder on DVD disc, it will not play in player, or will it? Thanks a lot.
