What product/version and application do you have/are you trying to use? You posted in V8 and I could guess MyDVD but that may not be correct.

Tell us something about your computer. I did a search of these forums (upper right of this page) and saw that the error seemed to be related to a hardware issue. What video card/chip do you have? Have you updated the video drivers and DirectX 9c? Does your computer meet or exceed the minimum specifications?

There are more than one type of avi files. Where did you get the file from? Have you tried any other file and/or another type of file? XP or Vista? Have you tried to open that avi file in VideoWave and then export it as an mpg2 file?

I am having the same problem and cannot find a solution. I have a Dell Intel Pentium D with CPU 3.0 Ghz, 1.0 GB of RAM, running XP professional w/SP2. I've downloaded the latest DirectX, Windows Media Player 10 (I uninstalled IE 7.0 and went back to 6.0, uninstalled Windows Media Player 11.0 and went back to 10.0), I have about 250 GB of hard drive space available. The error occurs when I try to load an .avi file into CineMagic. I've tried loading this file into MyDVD and VideoWave and also get errors saying Roxio DB has encountered an error and must be closed.

Try doing a Repair of the software through Add/Remove Programs. Select Change, not Remove.
