loop 3 songs in slideshow

Roxann (sis)

Question

I have EMC9 and have made several DVDs. Someone ask me to make them a slideshow, with 34 pics & 3 songs. They want the 1st song to play through, showing all the pics; then the 2nd song to play showing all the same pics; then the 3rd song showing the same pics. Then keep looping those 3 songs and pics for about a 5 hour party.....a 50th BD. I know how to loop a slideshow with 1 background song, but can this be done?

Thanks for any help!!

Well, there are probably any number of ways to do this, but if I was presented with a request like that, this is what I would try.

1. Open Videowave and start a new project.

2. Add my pics and any transitions or whatever other things I want in there effects wise. (no audio yet tho)

3. Save that project as something like Pics Only so it has only the pictures and effects in it.

4. Add the first song you want to use, then do the fit to audio option so the pics are timed to play once from the start ot end of the song.

5. Save this project as something like Pics and Song 1

6. Output the project to a video file. Name it something like PicsSong1

7. Open the Pics Only project

8. Add song 2 and do the fit to audio

9. Save this project as something like Pics and Song 2

10. Output the project to a video file. Name it something like PicsSong2

11. Repeat process to make a project and video file for the 3rd one.

12. Open MyDVD, select a DVD - No menu project (this will cause it to start when put in the player and loop until stopped)

13. Add the three video files (PicSong1,2,3) as a single movie/title

Preview it if you want, Output to an image file and preview that if you want, burn it.

Yes it can be done.

In Videowave, make your slideshow as you normally would, then switch to the Timeline view.

Press the Add Text button and add the text you want to appear during the slide. Then, using the timeline view, adjust the position and length of time that the text is visible so that it is appears and disappears while the slide you want to add text to is visible. Then just add transitions to the text so that it blends nicely.

I believe that will produce the effect you are going for.

You can't add 'transitions' to overlays, but there are some predefined 'actions' for overlays. Select the overlay track object and then click the little red ball icon. You have more options if you View/Settings and then click the TAB with the little red ball. There are motions for the beginning and end: ie, Fly in and Fly out.

These 'actions' can be applied to any overlay - still images, video, or text.

Thanks Larry....I figured it would have to go through several video waves instead of a "simple" slideshow...is there anything is this life that is "simple"? But I didn't know that eliminating the 'no menu' made it play and loop, so thanks bunch for that tip.

If I can jump in here  .

Since you have only 34 images you want to loop, add them to VideoWave stoyboard view. Go to the top menu, select Edit, then select all, then copy, then select the first open box and select paste, the images will be added in the order you set originally. Repeat to get them a third time. Just add the music. You probably will have to adjust the images to fit the audio files in order for them to match up but that should not be too difficult. You could trim the audio to fit the durations you set or calculate the duration of the slides by knowing the length of the music and divide that by 34 plus half the duration of any transitions. If the images and music doesn't have to match up, then use the command to match the slide show to the music.

See, I knew someone would have other ideas on how to do this also :)

I guess "simple" is a matter of perspective. The process I laid out, to me is actually simple from my perspective. Only because I don;t think it would take long to do, other than the outputting of each video file.

sknis's idea will work, and you'll only have the one project and file to have to deal with. I'd thought of that way too, but since I read it that you wanted the whole song to play for the 34 pics each time, I thought my suggested way might be easier to get the pics and songs to line up. It really comes down to experimenting a bit with a small project to figure these kinds of things out, then applying them to regular projects.

There are other ways to make the disc loop also, but they aren't as simple, so for what you described you were going to use it for, I thought the no-menu route would be the easiest.

Let us know how it works out for you.

Yes, Larry, I did it the way you suggested and it works perfectly. Thank you so much.

I saw a slideshow also where the picture stays up and text appears and then turns and dissolves. Can V9 of Roxio do that? If so, do you know how? Please advise. Thanks

You're welcome. Happy to hear it worked out for you. :)

Try the suggestions on the text from the others and let us know how that goes.

:( Larry...I don't get it. In videowave and photosuite, I'm acquainted with text per frame. But what I wanted to do is: Have the photo come up in the videowave frame; then the words Husband Father Grandfather Friend come in and fade out or turn out of photo, one at a time.

Finally, after upteen tries, I typed the words into one frame and used scroll and increased the duration. The text words scroll up into the photo, but I've seen the other way on a memorial dvd and it looked really cool.

Any suggestions? Thanks again for all your help! ;)

Video Wave allows up to 5 internal and 5 external text tracks. You might try using multiple tracks to do what you want. You'll have to adjust the text on the timeline to get it to fade in and out in sequence but you'll have control of the movement for each of the tracks.
