Newest Version of EMC Suite 9?

BJRubino

Question

Hi all,

I just installed EMC Suite 9 to my new laptop with Vista. Is there an update for EMC yet? I have seen some discussion on a 9.1, but I have yet to find where I can download it. I also am unable to get any updates through the built-in update utility.

Any info is appreciated,

BJR

I had to purchased the download version from the Roxio website to get 9.1 to replace 9.0 which did not work properly for me. I was able to install 9.1 using my 9.0 activation code so I wish customer service would have provided the new version for download at no cost since this fixed the problems I had. I can see the difficulty they would have with providing a patch or update if the previous version needs to be uninstalled cleanly. I found files, broken codecs and hundreds of registry entries left whenever I uninstalled 9.0 following the instructions provided to do another clean install hoping it would work. I finally gave up and purchased the upgrade.

Ya know, there's no promise that 9.1 (or whatever) will be any better than what is out now. In fact, given the inability for Roxio to accuratly predict when a release will be available ("pretty soon" over almost six months is *not* accurate) would lead me to beleive it will most likely be lots worse.

I was one of the ones that had Version 9.0 will lots of problems. I forced Roxio to give me Version 9.1 by sending the Better Business Bureau after them. I spent weeks working with Version 9.1 which did not fix my problems. I clean installed Vista (More than 9 times from a True Image) and proved to my satisfaction that Version 9.1 on a windows machine that never had Divx bundle installed worked every time. But if Divx bundle had EVER been installed, even version 9.1 has problems.

I see today that divx.com finally released a Vista version of Divx bundle, so maybe Roxio can now get serious and get the patch out. My videowave C++ error was not from Videowave but was from the windows open folder component not being able to extract the icon from an invalid link file. Roxio's only mistake was trusting that the API call to the open folder function would be successfull, and not trapping the error. That one will be easy to fix.

My only remaining problem is if I use disc copier with a video compilation and burn DVD format to a disc image file, it will hang. I know now that forcing Roxio to give you version 9.1, will not solve anything. With a flesh install of windows, EVERY piece of EMC works great. I think the patch will be more thoroughly tested, and will correct both Microsoft and Divx problems as well.

I think Roxio probably did good testing with EMC 9.0, but on a virgin Vista machine. My guess is that Roxio does not want to finger either of these companies as their product relies on them so much. I know nothing I have offered will help fix your problem, but I hope it makes you feel better.

If you elected to buy what everyone else is going to get for free… Well that is called self inflicted pain and there is nothing anyone here can do for you.
