DAZZLE - Need Help

zee

Question

Hello,

I’m back and my new issue is Dazzle, which is the main reason I purchased EMC9-Deluxe. I have some old VCR tapes that I would like to import and create DVDs. When I installed the Dazzle DVC 90 device in the USB it started installing software which seemed good, but then asked for Dazzle Driver Disk which I didn’t have. I searched some previous posts in this forum regarding this problem and downloaded the zip file which contained the emAudio.sys file and added it to windows/system32/drivers folder, so I assume I am good-to-go regarding the driver.

I really feel quite ignorant asking this next question, but here goes. I really am lost when it comes to hooking up video devices; I don’t understand the concept at all.

The Dazzle device has 4 connections (L-Audio In, R-Audio In, S-Video In & Video In. I have a TV with a built-in VCR player and it only has a Video In and Audio In connections. I have a stand alone VCR/DVD player which has Audio1 Out & In and Video1 Out & In. How the heck do I hook up Dazzle to either my TV with built in VCR or Stand Alone VCR/DVD player? Do I need any special wires for the connection? I have one set of wires with red & white connections and another wire with yellow connectors. As I said, I have no clue on how to do this.

THANKS for any help you can give me.

Zee

Wow, I can't believe it. Because of all your help I was able to get my Dazzle to start working. I tried everthing and then per your suggestion, I removed the pinnacle drives and then reinstalled them and I was able to capture a movie. But the captured movie is very choppy and flashes in and out. What would cause this?

Also, I decided to try using a TV I have that has a built in VCR. It has Audio L&R and Video connections in the front of the TV. But, the media import does not get a signal like it did with my stand-a-lone VCR. Why would this be?

It appears that the choppy capture was due to dazzle being connected to USB port on front of my Dell PC. I switched the connection to a USB port on the back and the PROBLEM IS SOLVED.

It appears that I am now good to go.

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HELPED ME!

Not sure what would cause the choppy capture.

As far as the TV those are probably inputs not outputs. If you scroll through the inputs in the TV menu I bet you'd see them (whatever they're called).

OK - I'll try to do this in order

For the dazzle drivers, you plug the gubbins in after you install EMC9 as the drivers are built into the program. However, these are XP/2K drivers and, for Vista, you will have to go to Pinnacle and get their drivers (they also have the XP/2K ones as well)

You won't be able to use the TV/VCR combo - it needs to be able to output the signal and, as your connections are 'in' that can't be done

For the VCR - you will need RCA terminated cables to connect from the Video Out/Audio Out to the appropriate input cobnnections on the Dazzle interface. As the dazzle is designed for stereo input, just experiment with eityher the right or left input (or maybe ask at your local electronics shop for a Y connector so that the audio gets split and fed to each input)

Take the cable with the red and white connectors and hook one end to Audio L + R out on the VCR.Hook the other end to the Dazzle at the Audio ins.Take the cable with the Yellow ends and hook one end to Video out on the VCR.Hook the other end to the Video in on the Dazzle. If your VCR has an S-Video out on it you can substitute an S-Video cable for the ones with the Yellow ends.

Open Media Import,Hit the Video tab and choose the Dazzle from the dropdown. You should see a picture in the preview window. If you don't make sure that Composite video is chosen as the Input type right above the preview window (if you use the cable with the yellow ends).

As long as Windows recognizes the Dazzle after you plug it in and load the driver you should be able to see a preview and capture the tapes.

Thank you very much for your responses. They are very much appreciated. I went up to the electronics store and purchased video/audio cables. I connected them exactly like you said. I opened the Media Import, selected video and Dazzle and made sure that Composite Video was chosen, but no preview is shown. The status says "ready to capture". Any more suggestions? Is there a way to be sure that I have the correct dazzle driver installed? As I mentioned in the initial post, I did download the zip file which contained the emAudio.sys file and added it to the windows/system32/drivers folder.

Sknis,

Thank you for the detailed information. Still having problems. I did notice, that my "Input" under options is dimmed out and I can't select anything. Could that be my problem?

By the way, how did you add the image (attachment) to you post? I would have done the same to show how the "input" is dimmed out, but couldn't figure out how to.

Yep, if the input is dimmed, your computer is not seeing that DVC 90. Some ports on your computer do not have the ability to use that DVC 90. My suggestion is to try another USB port, preferably one on the backside of your computer (assuming it is a desk top). The ones in the front often do not work. I remember that you do have the drivers for the DVC 90 loaded.

The ability to post images on this forum is granted to frequent posters by the administrator. You can always do a screen shot, upload it to a files sharing site and post the link here. There is a free application (for a short time) of "the Jing project" by TechSmith that you might be interested in. It will do the screen shot, load it to a site and the link is placed on your computers clipboard ready for pasting. TechSmith programs do nothing that you can't do already but the put the functions in one place. It is reputable. I use one of their products to capture screen display videos (look here).

Sometimes the DVC 90 is finicky about what order things are opened and started. You may have to play around with it but they this.

Open Roxio Media Import. Before doing anything else, turn on your VHS player and put it on pause. Now select video and then the DVC 90 as the source. The black screen should be green or blue or even have an image. Now select the options shown. If you has s-video chosen, you may have to chose composite to get the screen to change from black - or vice versa.

I use the Dazzle and it works just fine. The drivers I use I got from the Pinnacle website. You can also use the ones here.Use the one that says "Dazzle DVC90 device not detected".

Start over.Unplug the Dazzle,go into Control Panel and delete the drivers if you see them there.Look for either Dazzle or Pinnacle. If it says Pinnacle it should be a USB2 driver.Remove the driver and reboot.

Once you've done that then follow the directions at the knowledge base article I linked. When you're done if it works then you should see something like these screens:

The thing I find weird is that you said the Status shows Ready to capture which is what it should say if Media Import is seeing it and the Input is set correctly.
