Burning .avi files on Roxio?

scottkitty

Question

Is it possible to burn .avi files onto a DVD using roxio, whenever i try and add a new file it says "the file you are trying to use cannot be edited, and has not been added".

If anyone can tell me whether this is possible to even do or to tell me what im doing wrong, any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

And the program in the suite you tried to burn the .avi is? What is the origin of the .avi file?

AVI is just a 'container' that can have many different types of video. You need to be more specific: MS AVI, DV AVI, DivX, Xvid? Those are the most common, but an AVI could contain other types of video. Sounds like a possible codec issue.

All files can be put onto a dvd as a data file for computer use. I have had mixed luck putting onto the disc as a DVD file that can be played on a DVD play .

some Divx seem to work, others give me a c + run time error.

What formats does Roxio support?

(There has been such a delay on 9.1 release that I wish I had gotten Nero instead.)

Files types supported by Videowave/MyDVD:

bmp, rle, dib, jpg, jpe, jpeg, gif, png, tif, tiff, asf, wmv, m2s, m2p, mpeg, mpeg2, dat, mov, avi, mpg, mp4, m4v, m2t, m2ts, tp, ts, trp, dvr-ms, tivo, divx, 3gp, dmsp, pspd, pzp, ifo, vob

Some of files types are high definition file formats. .dat is MPEG 1 from VCD or SVCD, not data. If you are having trouble with DivX, there is a known conflict between the DivX installed by EMC (V6.1 I think) and the one you download (V6.2 or later). If you have installed the latest DivX, that is most likely your problem. Someone posted a fix for this conflict and it is pinned at the top of one of the forums.
