Toast Does Not Open When Using Apple Remote Desktop

Chris Marel

Question

Hi everyone,

I am using Toast 8.0.1 on a C2D Mac Mini via Apple Remote Desktop.

Whenever I go to open Toast it simply bounces in the dock and disappears.

The strange thing is, whenever i plug a display into the Mac Mini, toast will launch and work fine! Whereas without a screen via an iMac G5 using Apple Remote Desktop it won't work at all!

Has anyone experienced any similar issues or know how to go about this?

Thanks

Chris

The Mac Mini is a file server and used by 2 other machines and does not have a screen. We want to back up data onto a CD from it at the end of each day.

You have encountered a limitation of Toast. You might be able to use Apple's Backup or Retrospect on the Mini to burn those data backups using the Mac Mini's drive. Or you might use Deja Vu to backup the files to a different Mac that can burn the disc using Toast. Check out the Auto-Connect feature in Deja Vu (described in its Help).

Hmm, thanks, why is this a limitation though?? It works at the moment if we just use the burn list of files from the Mini over the network to one of the iMacs...

Have you tried using just the DVI to VGA converter to make it think it has a monitor, maybe?

Yup, I have, I tried all that.... thanks for the suggestion though.
