Problem with easy audio capture app in EMC 9

daveo

Question

I thought because I had a SigmaTel onboard audio chip that I needed a real sound card so I bought a C-Media 8768 based card. Same problem in EMC9.0. The Easy audio capture still doesn't work. The Easy Audio capture box still has Capture From: Listing the input devices on the sound card and the Input: box listing nothing. Of course it still won't let me record sounds going to the speakers. What is up with this?

tbrewst's fix worked for me. Make sure that you right click on any of the devices listed under the recording tab, the option to show disabled devices should then appear. When I did this I was then able to see that a 'Stereo Mix' device was in a disabled state. Once enabled Roxio's Easy Audio Capture could record from this device without any problems.

This has to do with sound cards and the difference in the way that Vista handles sound vs XP.Thing is that a lot of the inputs that cards have work in XP but not Vista.Until they start making cards and the applications that go with them that are Vista designed this problem is gonna be there.

You can try going into Vista's Control Panel,Hardware and Sound,Sound.Go to the recording tab and right clicki on you're device. When the box comes up check "Show Disabled Devices".If your card has any more inputs they should show now.Right click on one that might be visible now and try and enable it.You may be able to enable one that will give you an input that you can use.

Also check C-Media's website and see if they can give you any insight on Vista.Maybe new drivers or software apps.

Thanks for your reply, tbrewst. I don't have a button to show disabled devices. Also I see somewheres else here that you have 9.1? How'd you get that version, I see that they are promising it but there appears to be problems?

Thanks for your suggestions.

I have the latest C-Media drivers from 12-2006 as best as I can determine. Funny thing that the add in sound card works as good as the sigmatel onboard one. Something I'd read in other forums shouldn't be the case.

Is there a good sound card that actually can work with Vista and allow EMC9 Easy Capture to function?

I took a look at C-Media's site and couldn't find a Vista driver for that series.Maybe I didn't look in the right place.

As far as cards it seems to be hit and miss right now.Mine actually works with my onboard sound. You could try Google and look for Vista sound cards.See if you can find one that says it works and has apps written for Vista. If it does then the different inputs will probably work.I know for my Audigy Creative says there are apps coming but who knows when or even if.
