Tounie
Hey, I have recently updated my computer to the new one. I have reinstalled Roxio 7 and moved all the files from old computer to new one. Guest ml
Thanks for the input, Walt. I obviously didn't look close enough. Sorry. This time I made a test file using only pictures and this is what I found. There is a link to the first picture that I used in the title. However, for the rest of the pictures, the program ( version 7.1) links to a .DMSM file that is automatically generated when I made the DVD Builder file. That link on my program is listed as <SourceFile dt:dt="string">C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Roxio\DVD Builder 7.0\DSC00003.DMSM</SourceFile> (DSC00003 is the name of the picture in the title) To find that file, your Windows folder options have to be set to display hidden folders. Opening that file in WordPad, you can find the links to the pictures ( best found by using Edit\ Find ), change them, and save the file. ****** Personally, I'd try opening the DVD Builder file and trying the Advanced Edit\ File\ Browse for missing files first. That will give her the underlying .DMSM file and it should be easy to locate and link to the missing files. Now I have no idea if the above procedure works in version 7.5 because I don't have that version installed to test it.

Tounie
You need to understand how the software works. When you create a DVD Builder or VideoWave production, the software 'links' to the location where your original pictures and video are created. As you edit, you're creating an editing file which is used when you go to make the CD/DVD to make a finished product. You changed computers, so the program lost the link. I don't know why the Browse for Missing files isn't working. You could try to take the production into VideoWave using the instructions here: http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=9277 and see if the File\ Browse for missing files in VideoWave will work. However, those pictures might not be on your computer if you changed them in DVD Builder or VideoWave. The program saves the altered pictures as .png files in a hidden folder on the computer where you changed them. Is VideaWave freeware or included in Roxio 7? How can I manually change the location links? As software saves them somewhere (in dmsd-file?) it must be possible to edit links, right!?!? What do you mean by hidden files? Does Windows "Show hidden files option" show these hidden files? :Tounie
Tounie
dmsm and dmsd are XML files and can be opened using Word but it takes a lot of effort to "decode" the file and you have to know something about the XML format. There are several XML editors out there you might be able to use to look at the dmsm or dmsd files Hi, Do you think that the file locations are marked in dmsd-xml, like <tag>filepath</tag>, so that I just need to change the filepath location to get it work? The old computer is not available anymore. -Tounie
Tounie
The drive letter could be the problem. However, I don't understand what you mean by Browse for Missing Files doesn't work. Can you not select it or can you not find the folder on your desktop? If I open the DMSD-file and try to relocate files with option "Browse for Missing files...", it doesn't work. Nothing happens when I choose "Browse for missing files" on the menu. Titles are also empty as white boxes. Topics are there but everything else is gone. Why I cannot even relocate the files? Please don't tell me the software is so buggy, that if I have changed computer and try to open DMSD-file it won't work unless the files are on the same directory-path when the project was saved. "Paid" software cannot be so a stupidly programmed, at least I hope so. I have screeshots but couldn't send them here. It needed url. :Tounie
malatekid
1) Are the projects and source files in the new system reinstalled in identical paths as they were in the old computer? 2) Do you have IE7 and/or WMP11? If so, they are reported to cause problem with EMC7. You may want to roll back to earlier versions. See this post.

I once tried to open a dmsm file in an attempt to change links (when I renamed a file) but I couldn't get it to work. It seems that files only can be written from within VW (I assume because it's a proprietary format). Yes, that option will show hidden files. If you do not have all your original files in the exact same location as when you created your project you have a real problem.
grandpabruce
In addition to what Malatekid said, if your new computer is Vista, EMC 7, 7.5, and 8 won't work, and it is doubtful that there will ever be any updates to make them Vista compatible. Tounie
Now I have made sure that the IE version is 6 (not 7) and Media Player 11 is uninstalled. I also removed ROXIO 7 and reinstalled it. IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. DVD Builder opens DMSD-file, but it seems to be some how corrupted because titles are white boxes and preview is not available because some files are missing. Browse for missing files option doesn't do anything. Where in dmsd-file are the filepaths saved and how can I manually edit the file and change the right paths? :Tounie

Hi, system is windows XP, and IE is versio 6. Media Player version I cannot remember. Could it be the problem? The filepaths are not identicaly, probably at least the drive-letters have changed. Could this be the prob? But I think Browse for files should work for this case. -Tounie

VideoWave is a better program for video and picture productions. Do you still have access to the older computer? If there are 'hidden files' for pictures that you've changed, they'll be on the older computer. If you don't have access to that older computer, as sisterscape said 'you have a real problem' If you have access to that older computer, it would be best to complete the production on that computer. I don't know how you can manually change the location links other than using Browse for missing files. However, IF you set up your drives and folders exactly as they were on the old computer for the Roxio files, the program will find the files. Almost all video/picture editing programs work by linking to the original files.

There is no 'filepath' in the file. Here's something else you can try. In DVD Builder, open up Advanced Edit ( the icon to the right of Transition Themes). That should open up StoryBuilder. Now do a File\ Browse for missing files.
