Total uninstall of Creator 9

Unhappy in RI

Question

:angry2: Everyone makes a mistake -- mine was to purchase Creator 9 when Creator 7.5 was running perfectly well on my system (Win XP Pro). How do I get rid of this dog! When I installed, I started getting messages in Event viewer (under application) that several modules failed to load (roxsniffer9 / bonjour / etc.); when if uninstalled the Roxio program(s) with Windows uninstaller the messages in Event viewer continued to show up ---- and it was obvious that Roxio's uninstall routine does not make any attempt to rectify the changes it made to my registry files. How do I get my registry back to square one so that I can go back to 7.5? Loaded Creator 9 from a CD (not a download) --- initial documentation was non-existant -- no 'read-me' file or User Guide on CD -- have to load the program before you can see any documentation.

Is that privileged information? You left that part out when I asked you!

cd

Sorry about that CD. One of the other folks on the forums posted that they had done that, before I installed EMC 9 the first time. I followed his, making a folder, method of installing.

Again, sorry I forgot about that the other day when you asked about installing both. :(

It's going to take several methods to completely remove all tracks of Roxio. The link mentioned above is a good place to start. After that, scanning the hard drive for Roxio and Sonic will probably find more pieces. Then run 2-3 different registry checkers and look for more pieces. Going the MS control panel remove programs route is a bit time consuming and it doesn't get everything.

Been there and done that.

Good luck to you, Dave. I hope it works.

I used the //kb.roxio.com/content/kb/creator/000086cr instructions. You are correct -- it leaves stuff behind (under services -- manually disabled - roxmedia D89/Roxio upnpserver9/roxio upnprender/roxio hard drive w) and in msconfig startup (roxwatch tray9/dmxlauncher) and you have to manually disable the Bonjour service. But at least it got all the "modules failed to load" out of Event application watcher. As was mentioned, no documentation up front -- since Roxio allowed you to load version 7.5 over version 7.0, I assumed that I could load version 9.1 over 7.5. My other problem under "custom install" was that it didn't explain what the various modules did (do you really need them for your application or are you just adding additional clutter)...you only find out about the function of the modules after the install. In my case, I don't need connection to an IPod / don't need photo cataloging (have Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom/Extensis Portfolio) / and additional backup capabilities (have Retrospect backing up to an external hard drive). All I really need is a #$^@ good and fast software package to burn large graphic files onto either CD's or DVD's --- I had that with Roxio version 7.5. Thanks for the advice.

By the way, I am also a Vietnam Vet - 69-70.

Also, when I installed EMC 9, I made an EMC 9 folder, in the Roxio folder in Programs, so EMC 9 didn't clutter up the Roxio folder. In installed it to the folder that I made.

Do the following, for a clean install:

I have both EMC 7.5 and EMC 9.0 on my computer, and both run fine. What I did was uninstall EMC 7.5, then installed EMC 9, got it up and running, then installed EMC 7.5.

All programs, in both suites, run fine. They did not the first time that I installed EMC 9. I had left EMC 7.5 on my computer, and there were some conflicts between programs. Uninstalling all, then installing EMC 9, then EMC 7.5 solved those issues.

Also, when I installed EMC 9, I made an EMC 9 folder, in the Roxio folder in Programs, so EMC 9 didn't clutter up the Roxio folder. In installed it to the folder that I made.
