DragtoDisc crashes windows

rhemerick

Question

I am trying to use drag-to-disc to move data to a DVD. The copying goes just fine, but when i try to eject the disc I get the blue screen error from windows and the computer shuts off. Obviously microsoft has no helpful info. Also I tried to use the "finalize disc" tool from the EMC9 home page and it did the same thing. My computer does not crash with any other programs.

I've had nothing but problems between Roxio and my DVD drive. Maybe it's a compatability issue? Anyone know what I can do.

If your advice is to update my drivers, could someone help me find driver updates for a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-851S?

Your drive is made by Panasonic (they use the Matshita name for them) but from what I can see there is no firmware available.

It does seem to have problems with DVD-R (see here) for some info on it.

Is the problem only with Drag to Disc or is it with other apps in the suite? You'll probably see a post or two popping up as to how bad D2D is and how unreliable it is. Truth to tell, I uninstalled it before I did anything else here with the suite ;)

There is absolutely no truth in what you say!

D2D is a tiny dormant application that does NOTHING until a read/write command for one burner is intercepted.

Don't know what your problem was but it was not D2D!

I always used Easy CD Creator 5 with a lot of pleasure. I have used Easy Media Creator 9 for 4 months now. I could update the BackUp utility to Deluxe 2006. I did that and my computer slowed down. I removed it and the update facility did not work any more. Easy Media Creator could still do its job.

Yesterday I decided to remove EMC and install it again. Compared to Easy CD Creator 5, EMC makes use of several services. When Windows is started all those services are started as well. D2D is just one of the many services which are started. So it is not as dormant as you suggest it is. I could disable it but I removed it because I don't use it.

The following services should be enabled on my computer DMXLauncher.exe, RoxMediaDB9.exe, and stllssvr.exe. They are essential for the things I do. I have the rest of the services disabled.

If Easy CD Creator 5 would still function on my computer, I would immediately remove EMC 9. Easy CD Creator 5 still functions under SP2, IE7 and Mediaplayer 11 on older computers. But unfortunately it does not recognise the latest drives.

Really? Do you have it working, too? You should list detailed directions on how to get it to work.

The ironic thing about the media is that I was using HP lightscribe DVDs. I don't remember if it was + or - R but I will check in the morning (they're at the office).

Answer to your question about other apps: It also happened when I tried to use the Finalize Disc app on the Tools section of the Suite. I haven't tried to make a Data with Creator though. Maybe I'll give that a shot. I do also believe I will be removing D2D. It has given me trouble in the past, but I keep trying to use it. I guess I'm just like a battered spouse that keeps coming back!

D2D really slows down the computer. Today I reinstalled Easy Media Creator 9 and noticed how long it took before Windows was ready to use. The first thing I did was to remove D2D and the problem was over.

I reinstalled Windows XP SP1, installed SP2, all the updates including IE7 Mediaplayer 11, etc. Then I installed Office XP plus all the updates and then I installed Easy CD Creator 5 (5.02), rebooted the computer and then the update to 5.3.5. I did not have a single problem and Easy CD Creator runs fine on two 4-year-old computers.

Actually Easy CD Creator 5 is a joy to use. Easy Media Creator 9 is a slow, cumbersome program on my Pentium 3.20 Ghz computer with 2 GB memory.

Sorry to say this has been a problem going all the way back to Ver. 6. Years ago, a Roxio tech told me not to use drag-to-disk and I haven't since. I downloaded a small utility from the Roxio Web site that entirely removed the drag to disk software function from Creator. As I recall, if you once got a blue screen using the Roxio drag feature, all hell could break loose in Windows itself and any attempt to burn a CD would fail. It's been a long time and my memory is fuzzy on the exact details, but that's pretty close. My advice is don't use it.

Thanks! I remember having seen it before, now that you pointed to it again.
