Useful With Mini (8cm) Dvd's?

Question

I know that editing mini dv tape is optimal, but I own a sony dvd camcorder. Any knowledge or advice is appreciated: Is there any reason to own Toast to use with my 8cm dvd's? I know that Apple's iLife products won't be of any use. Can I edit these dvd's with Toast or do I need to use a Windows product like MyDvd? Thanks in advance.

Toast 7 can extract the MPEGs from those DVDs using the Toast Media Browser. Once they are extracted as MPEG files, though, you'll need to use a different application if you want to edit them. One that I suggest is Capty MPEGEdit EX that's available at pixela-1.com. Another is MPEG Streamclip that requires Apple's QuickTime MPEG 2 Component. Alternatively you can have Toast export the MPEGs as QuickTime or DV files which then can be edited in iMovie or other video-editing apps.
