Individual scenes become thumnails in VideoWave 9

Colin Eyssen

Question

I have used EMC 7 for video editing without problem for 2 + years.

With a new computer, EMC 9 and Vista, when I use Media Import for my DV camcorder, I get individual scenes, but when I import these scenes into VideoWave 9, they are only thumbnails of 0.1 seconds. Using the video trim I can get the scenes back to full length, but this is very slow. I have tried editing the whole capture using the zap commercial routine in Timeline and this only works if you have a fairly long section to delete, but not for a piece of a second or two.

Any suggestions?.

May not be the same problem. It's a bit confusing when you say that you can get the full length back by using the 'trim' function. Sounds more like you are just confused about the how the clips are being displayed - Storyboard VS Timeline.

Then you talk like you're trying to 'remove' a second or two of the clip. Is this two different issues? For very short edits, it's much easier to just insert a split and then use the trim function.

Sorry, I was talking about two different approaches to trying to edit my videos, one using the individual scenes and the other the full capture file.

When I use the individual scenes, they only appear as thumbnails in Videowave (It makes no difference if it is timeline or storyline) . A one hour tape in preview is just a few seconds - each scene is 0.1 seconds long so totally useless. If I bring up the video trim for each individual scene, I can advance the scene end wheel to anywhere on the tape, thereby creating each scene into what it ought to have been if the software was working correctly. The beggining of the scene is in the right spot (as the thumbnail is suppposed to be the first frame)

On the subject of the full tape into Videowave, you had replied to an earlier question suggesting the routine called zapping commercials. I tried this as an alternative to the individual scene approach and marked the chapters as suggested. However the software only seems to work on trimming out the unwanted sections if they are of reasonable length and not just a few seconds.

I hope this clarifies the two problems. Thanks

You'll have to explain how you are capturing these 'scenes' and how are you adding them to the Storyboard or Timeline that they only show up as .1 second.

I've never tried removing only a few seconds that way, but makes sense. Just make a split and then just 'trim' each end. By using the wheel in the trimmer, you can be frame accurate.

I am using normal setting for capture in Media Import. Each scene appears as a separate file in the right hand window as the tape progresses. At the end of capture I open VideoWave and call up the file from "Recently Imported". I click the bottom right bent down arrow on the file and all the individual scene files appear. I highlight all the scene files I need {using Shift) and click "Open". The individual scenes then appear in the bottom half of the window. I normally use storyline, but the problem is the same in Timeline.

It may confuse the issue, but the scenes in the top half of VideoWave have a little play button on them. If you click "play"on the first scene, nothing happens, if you click play on the second scene it plays but then continues into the next scenes presumably to the end of the capture, instead of stopping at the end of the scene.

I hope I am not adding more confusion, but I needed to get a movie edited and I downloaded a trial copy of Corel Ulead Video Studio and it captured and worked fine editing the individual scenes as did my old EMC 7 on a different computer.

Thanks - could you please explain how to make a split.
