VW - 2 questions

Texan

Question

#1 - Is the creation of a [Video] DVD when the content is too large for one DVD as simple as 'Ask Roxi" says..you are simply prompted to insert a second DVD ? Just thought I would ask before 1+hour of recording and then surprised. (sorry, realized "subj" indicated 2 VW question - as you realize, this is a MyDVD)

#2 - Perhaps I am making this more complicated but this is what I am doing ..

a. Import a Video file (done many times)

b. Edit the video clip by cutting say 20 min off the end of a 60 min clip

c. save and preview all is well....then I go back and want to cut 5 minute out of the middle of that clip

d. I set my start/end markers, select the 5 minutes, the 'bar' appears...so far so good

e. I click the 'X' to remove the 5 minute section but when I look at the clip, it does not remove the 5 min section, appears to cut more.

Hope this is enough detail for suggestions...I do not have problems cutting the middle of Video when I first bring it in so I wonder if editing after cutting the beginning or end of the vide clip then saving is an issue.

Thanks...if more detail is needed, just let me know.

Answer to #1 it depends on what you are creating. If your project is a video, the most you can get on a single sided DVD at good quality is 1 hour. You may choose to "fit to disc" but the quality will diminish significantly.

Not quite sure what is occurring when you are editing the video clip, sorry.

You could try splitting the clip at the two positions instead of using markers, then select the middle bit and delete it. With an expanded time scale I find it is possible to set the position for the split quite accurately and so far I've always found that the split occurs at that point. Worth a try.

I don't pretend to understand fully, but I believe that a video can only be cut at certain points so that the join between clips can be rendered smoothly. Not sure if it is between any two frames or only at the I frames* (if it is an mpeg format; don't know if there is an equivalent for other formats). However that should be within a fraction of a second of the marked position. Videowave does not show frame positions but you can set a time position to nearest .01 seconds. At 30 frames/second the nearest frame edge should then be within about .02 seconds of the set position.

In an MPEG video stream, an I Frame is a Full frame. This frame does not need any information from the frame before it or after it to be played back properly.

I tried the split function before but re-tried after your hint 'maximize' the Timeline, it worked. Thanks!.
