Vista Not Shutting Down

Don59

Question

I have just installed EMC9 and since then Windows Vista (Home Premium) will not close down. It just hangs on the "Shutting Down" screen. I have tried the DLA fix but it says I have the latest version of the software already.

Has anyone else had this problem or got any ideas on how to fix?

Thanks

Paul,

Thanks for your help. I brought my PC up in Safe Mode and closed down properly.

I then went through MSCONFIG and disabled startup items and also non microsoft services. After a laborious process of going through each of the Roxio services one by one I eventually enabled all of them again and my PC shut itself down quite happily!

I am confused

I can only think that geting it to shut down sucessfully in Safe Mode somehow sorted the problem out, but I have no idea if this could be true.

The bottom line is that the PC is functioning corectly with all the Roxio services enabled.

Thanks again

Don

You might want to take a look at msconfig and see what's starting up. You can uncheck the questionable ones using trial and error to find what the problem might be.

I've just started toying with Autoruns which is pretty good at showing you everything that starts at boot up and the order of them. It is supposed to work in all Windows OS's but I've not yet tried it in my Vista boot but looking at it in XP gives me mucho information.

Don, sometimes you just don't ask why! But, glad it worked for you. I hope it continues to do so. Thanks for letting us know.

Exactly what version do you have....9 or 9.1?

Paul,

I downloaded it on Wed 1 Aug so it should be the latest. I can't confirm that until I have access to my home PC later today.

For some unusual reason when I unchecked the Roxio utilities I caused an error on boot. Just want to make sure the user is prepared for that. It's not serious.

Don,

I share your pain. I recently ordered a new Dell XPS 410 mirrored 500GB drives with Vista Home Premium. The first and only software I decided to load was EMC9 Suite. I immediatley encountered the Drag to Disc Error. The fix came in two flavors 1- if you owned a Dell computer and a 2nd one if you had Vista. Since I had a new Dell with Vista I had to run both before I could figure out how to resolve this issue. Shortly after this, my computer would not shut down properly - just hang.... and hang. I wish I could remember the steps I went through to resolve the issue. I really think I got lucky and it almost just fixed itself through some sequence of events. It took several days for it to start shutting down properly. I do think I went into safe mode and tried several variations of startup, check for updates, closed drag to disc etc...

I don't know how it got fixed, but I'm glad it did. I wish I could help, but just wanted to let you know there were others out here that feel your pain.

Speaking of pain...the font issue in Label Creator - that shuts down the software... never mind - so many others have already mentioned it. I'm just patiently waiting for the Patch or EMC10 whichever comes first..

Ken
