VideoWave experts Help Me Please

Delt

Question

Wow, I have had this product less than 24 hours and already a load of problems. I have had installation problems, registration problems and now a lot of useability issues and frustration in finding good information. I am not a lazy or computer illiterate user. I will spend hours studying tutorials or help guides, but I cannot find useful information. Everything seems to be vague and basic.

1. How do I make certain parts of a clip move fast or slow?

Partial answer is to adjust speed but that adjusts speed for entire file. I only want part of a video file adjusted. I thought of splitting file but it doesn't want to let me.

2. How do I add sound effects (small .wav files) to a particular point on the timeline? Each time I add one, it tries to add at end of previous sound effect no matter where I have my point set on the timeline.

3. When I add very small .wav files only a few kb, the file isn't complete. It cuts off part of the end of the sound bite.

4. Let's say I have my production complete but at the last minute I decide to add a new video file to the beginning of the storyline. If I do this, does it throw off all my sound effects for the rest of the timeline? Isn't there any way to have everything stay synchronized? In other words, can I "anchor" sound effects to certain parts of the video clip?

5. Can I have two songs on the music track blend together rather than one ending and next one beginning? If I have a transition in video, I want to change songs at that transition and made need to cut one song a little short. Can I have it blend or merge with a new song or do I have to do this outside VideoWave?

1) that exactly how you do it. Adjusting speed is applied to the entire 'clip'. If you haven't made any splits, then the 'clip' is the entire file. You must first SELECT the clip. I find it easier to do in Timeline Mode. You can tell by the fact there is thin yellow/orange line around it. Move the BLUE LINE to where you want the first split. Click the Split icon. The clip to the LEFT will then be selected by default. Click on the next clip, move the Blue Line and click the Split Icon a second time. You now have 3 clips. Select the middle section and apply the speed you want.

2)Editing in Videowave is much like MS Word. You should position the INSERTION POINT (blue line in Timeline mode) before adding a file or sound effect.

3)No idea - don't have that problem. File could be corrupt. Load it into Sound Editor and add some silence to the end. You can the adjust the length in Videowave.

4)No, sorry, there is no way to 'anchor' sound effects or other overlay tracks - as far as I know.

5)Yes, you should be able to do that, but using another audio track may help. You can add 'music' to any of the audio tracks like the narration track.

Since you are a support engineer, you can answer Complaints 1 & 2 yourself. You should know the routine - cost. As for complaint #3, Most users don't even bother reading the manual or Help file and very few will even go through the tutorials. Adding advanced tutorials would also add cost to the product even if they were online only. After all they would have to pay someone to create them.

Frank,

Thank you. I will read it now.

Russell,

Thanks for your tips. I will try them after reading the link Frank provided.

I have been reading tips and tricks. So far the most interesting thing I have found there was a guy who posted his video of BF game he made using Roxio. I thought it was nice, but I really expect Roxio to be able to do more than just that. Maybe my expectations are too high.

I will admit I am a bit of a perfectionist and not very patient. I always want to jump right into something and produce the best product I can deliver.

Russel, I have seen your face often in the forums already. You seem to be very helpful. Do you work for Roxio or just an avid user?

Avid- maybe I should be learning that instead lol. I worked in the entertainment business and remember the post production editors using Avid.

Well... off to learning and sorry for the complaints. If I am proven wrong and have jumped the gun on my frustrations I will apologize and make things right.

Russell,

On a side note, I am now going to have to make some hardware upgrades. I am looking at Seagate 7200 RPM, 500 Gig with firewire external drive for $149 at Fry's Electronics. Sound good?

I only have 2 GB processor and I am going to upgrade from 512 RAM to 1 GB. I realize I am borderline, but money is tight.

Any other hardware suggestions?

Russell,

I had "trimmed" a video file and then tried to split it. Maybe it's not possible to do that?

Okay... I have some very large video files and I am only uses very small parts of these files in my production. Is it better to split and then delete unwanted footage or trim or do you have another alternative suggesiton?

There is an EMC 9 manual that you can download from Roxio. Have you tried that to see if it will help you as apposed to the tutorials ??

Okay, help with inserting sound effect. Here is what I did as a test.

1. Added .avi video file.

2. Placed blue line where I wanted split and split successfully. I split in 3 segments then deleted first and last segment. (thanks)

3. Added MP3 file for music background.

4. Moved blue line to where I want the sound of a whip (very small file).

5. Clicked Add Background Audio>selected whip.wav>clicked open>changed radio button to Add on Sound Effect Track.

Blue line moved to beginning of timeline and sound effect was added there. I then moved blue line to middle of timeline and added a second sound effect. The second sound effect was placed immediately after first sound effect and both are at beginning of timeline.

Expand the timeline (drag the blue triangle between the two magnifying glasses), then drag the audio clips to where you want them (with the time line compressed the clips are probably too thin to show up properly for you to get a handle on them, but as you expand the timeline they become easier to see and drag around).

The real problem is that when I add an audio clip (either as music or sound effect) the clip doesn't get added where my blue line is on the timeline. The clip gets added ad then end of any previous clip.

Thanks for the tip on the blue triangle. That is easier to move up and down the timeline that way as opposed to how I was doing it.
