video wave

Question

can any one help with this problem.

i have made many photo dvds with narrations built in video wave and saved as dmsm.

then burnt to disc in dvd builder.

now i have a new pc it has explorer six and win media 10 {i had problems with ex7 media 11 before}

i start building the production using jpeg photos and recording and adding narrations. as i normally do.

after a few times of saving my work. i click file and everything is greyed and i can click on nothing not even exit. i close the programme using alt ctrl delete and end task. i reload videowave but cannot open the production. if i reboot the pc and try again it picks it up again and i can continue but anly for a couple of saves then it happens again. rebooting gets it back again . but after a couple of times repeating even a reboot does not allow me to open the file again.

i did manage to complete the production once and selected a theme in dvd builder when i added the file

the button appeared but it was empty. when i tried to reload the file in video wave again it would not open.

after a couple of days tearing my hair out i thought maybe its a corrupt jpeg or a narration i have made. i copied all the photos and narrations onto my old pc. i made the complete production and burnt the dvd with no problems. it took a lot longer as its a slower pc. so no problem with files.

i have repaired emc7 twice and uninstalled and reinstalled twice that has made no difference.

my new pc is home built.

abit fatal 1ty motherboard

intelcore duo e6700 cpu

2gig ddr ram

2x200gig hdds

250gb freecom usb2 hdd

nvidia ge force 8600 gts pci-e graphics

win xp proffesional

i have hdds partitioned win xp on c: roxio on e: and i save all productions on h:

that should not be a problem ?

the only different software between my new and old pcs is, the new has java 6 updates and latest quicktime.

i would appreciate any ideas.

BTW Brian, if you get part way through making a production and you have these problems, don't just exit out or loose what you ahve already completed. Go up and click on the "x" in the upper right hand corner of the screen and it will ask you if you want to save the file. Say yes and give it a name and a folder where you want to save it.

Now go back and re-open videowave and at least that production you were working on is still there at the place where it stopped before. Better than dumping the entire production work you have done and having to start all over.

I know this will probably not help to solve your problem, but I would suggest that when I was running EMC 7.5 I had a very similar problem. As you are building a production in Videowave, at each step in inserting a jpg photo, a narration, or what ever, you will notice on the bottom of the screen that orange horizontal graphic that indicates that the program is doing that task. You can see it running across the horizontal graph as it completes what is being done.

Every once in a while I would not see that graphical indication and the program would just stop and nothing I could do would help except to use the task manager to stop the program. However, each time I came back and opened up Videowave, the place where I had last saved the production would still be O.K.

After this happening several times I decided to wait and see if eventually Videowave would continue. Well, after I waited for some time, it did continue. The problem is that I have no idea why Videowave took so long to complete certain tasks while others were completed almost immediately. The only thing that I figured caused one of the problems was when my Security program (NIS 2006 at that time) was doing a complete scheduled scan of the computer. But at other times when the problem existed, nothing else was running on my computer at the time.

thank you for your comments. i know what you mean and that is what is so annoying the orange line whips across so fast with this new pc its a delight. the old one you can hear the pc groaning as it completes the task. i have tried saving every step and trying several steps before saving. it works fine then suddenly i click file top left in video wave to save and it is all shaded out. and it has completed the task and on the orange line. i am at a loss

To expand on what Frank has said. When I work in VideoWave, I disable all running programs. You might try doing the same. It doesn't take much to bog things down to a crawl or even stop it in its tracks.

thanks for that i will try it and see i had not thought about shutting down anything else that is running as i

had no problem on the old pc it is just a lot slower using video wave but it does the job okay.

at least i have that as a fall back.

i have roxio 8 but not installed on this pc i prefer using 7.5 i and its dvd builder menu themes.

if all else fails i will try installing 8 and see if i still have problems.

thanks again

brian.
