New EMC 9 won't install

bryantjab

Question

This is a new software installation; it has never been previously installed.

It locks up on setup. The Disc won't auto start. After I start the setup.exe application from the run menu the disc just spins in the dvd tray and the application installation locks. The PC is an HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop with AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile Technology TL-50 (1.6GHz)1GHz RAM with a 8XDVD-+R/RW and Windows XP Media Center Operating system.

This is the response that I received from tech support.

Try installing with services and startup items disabled.

1.) Disable your startup items

a. Click on the "Start" button and select "Run".

b. Type "msconfig" and click on the "OK" button or press the "Enter" key.

c. Select the "Startup" tab over on the right side.

d. Write down which items are checked, and then click on the "Disable All" button.

e. Select the "Services" tab.

f. Check the box that says "hide all Microsoft Services"

f. Click on the "Disable All" button.

g. Click on the "Apply" button and then click on "OK".

h. Click "YES" to restart the computer.

NOTE: To reverse these changes, follow the above steps and select "enable all".

I believe that the disc has some errors in the install app for the following reasons.

1. I followed the instructions to disable the startup items and it does the same thing...the install app locks up.

2. I attempted to install the software on my other PC a desktop (with specs that exceed the min requirements) yet it does the same thing...

3. On both PCs I can hear the disc spinning and making a clicking sound as if the laser head is slamming between two reference points.

4. In all cases the only way to exit once the install errors is to open the drive door. The Windows Task Manager won't close the install app.

5. In My Computer (windows explorer) I'm able to see the files on the disc but when I run the setup exe file the installer window opens and then errors.

6. When the install app locks I am able to access other apps on the PC and perform other functions.

OK now that the back ground information is out… Are there any ideas on how to fix this? I think I need a new install disc. What do you think?
