How to email/view

Gig A.

Question

I have had EMC9 for about 4 months. I have produced a few productions for my family.

My sister just bought EMC9 a few weeks ago. She just produced her first slide show and wants me to edit/make a few changes. Is there ANY way she can email me her .dmsm file so I can edit it here??

She emailed me her prodction but when downloaded it and tried to open it, it says all the pics were missing and skip/locate, etc. and was unable to see any pics. Is there a way for her to email me that file so I can edit it here, make the necessary changes and email it back to her???

Thank you

George/USA

Sounds like alot of work to edit it here..

Thanks for the speedy reply..

She would have to e-mail all of the files she used to make the production, and you would have to place them in the exact folders and locations as they were on her computer.

You're welcome. The files are not embedded into the .dmsm for obvious reasons. The file size would be large. The .dmsm file contains only a set of instructions on what the program is supposed to do when you go to burn your production.

Since she is your sister and you probably trust her :P , have you considered using something like "Remote Desktop Connection" -- part of Windows. I'm not sure you'll be able to do much work but it should be enough to get an idea of what she is doing.

There are programs out there that allow you to do the same type of thing. This one has a 30 day free trial.

Or you could try this one, which is free.

I've tried them all and Ultra VNC is good, TightVNC is faster but I ended up going back to Remote Desktop. For me and my setup, it's the fastest with the easiest to run.

Whichever you use, firewalls can be a stumbling block to turn them off first.

I have "Laplink Gold" 12 on my computer and used it just once to check on exchanging folders, files etc. remotely with another computer. It worked O.K. but it was not that easy to get all set up and configured right. Just using it between two computers that are hard wird was simple, but the remote was not that easy. Since then I have several 4GB flash drives that I use to transfer everything.

Maybe she could dump all her folders and files for that production of hers on a flash drive and mail it to you. Then you could dump that into your computer. Like suggested already though, all the folders, files (photos, videos, audio files etc) would have to be exactly like she had them.

Thanks everyone for the different options I have to edit my sisters production here.

I think the flash drive sounds the easiest thou. I've used a remote assistance program a long time ago and it was slow, alot of disconnects, etc. and that was when we used tel. lines.

We both have cable connections now and don't know how to do that option..

Thanks

I connect to my Mom's computer through MSN Messenger. She clicks on Actions > Request Remote Assistance and then we just follow the prompts from there. It's very easy, and I can 'take control' of her computer and work with any program just as if I were there. She has satellite and I have cable, so I don't think the connection type matters. She doesn't have VideoWave, but it has worked for every other program we have tried (Word, Photoshop Elements, email, etc.)
