What kind of file? I've burned 16:9 using DV AVI and MPEG 2 files with no problem. In fact, you don't even have to have a 16:9 menu for a 16:9 movie to playback properly.

It's a DV AVI file that I made with a Canon Elura. It previews as widescreen when I edit, but when I render it, it displays as 4:3, and when I play back the DVD, it is also 4:3. I don't see a 16:9 option.

Sorry, it was a DV file.

There are a multitude of post about the problems with the Canon Elura. You can read through some of them, here:

I don't believe it's a camcorder problem. However, it may be a playback problem. I had my DVD player set on "4:3", rather than "shadowbox" playback. This may be the reason I didn't see the black bands, and the image was compressed to 4:3. I will check it on a widescreen TV with the DVD player set on "widescreen".
