Kevin B
Thanks for the reply, grandpabruce. So at least I got that far, now that you've let me know what buttons to click. But I have to say, I couldn't be more disappointed in this product. I'm an even-tempered and patient guy, but I've been screwing around with this program for a day and a half now, and I can honestly say I can't remember when I've been more frustrated with a piece of software. By the way, I work in an IT department, so I'm not a complete novice when it comes to operating various kinds of software. While I didn't expect this to be easy, I expected at the very least to be able to read the manual, or access an online tutorial, that would explain to the inexperienced home user how to do the basics. My problem? I want to set up this home movie so that when you plug in the DVD, the first thing you see is a menu screen with a title, and two options: Play All and Chapter Selection. After two hours of messing with menus, and submenus, and preview screens and drop down menus, all I have is one big mess. And for all the time I've spent plunking away at the keyboard, I'm no further ahead than I was when I started, except for the fact that I'm now at the place where I should be able to do this stuff because a member of the online community was nice enough to post a response. The unfortunate thing about this is that I can see the potential to do a lot of wonderful things with EMC 9, but what good are the features if they're not accessible? The manual is terrible, the online help link is useless, and this software is going back to the store I bought it from if I can't figure out how to use it. As you can see, there's a question and a rant together in this post. I was angry when I wrote this.

Then use MyDVD for the menus and burning. jeanrosenfeld
There are several ways. One way, which creates a main menu with a link to the chapters menu is as follows: Split the file using Videowave. Save the project, giving it a suitable name. Open MyDVD, add the project you just saved. In the left panel you see under project view, The menu and below that the video, given the name you gave to the Vodeowave ptrojet. Right click on the video, click edit chapters. In the window that opens, select At start of every panel, click Go. You see the chapter start thumbnails shown on the right. Click OK. Now the button on the main menu that bears the name of the video will open the chapters menu, on which there will be a button for each chapter (it gets messy if you create lots of chapters). Second way, which creates the main menu containing a button for playing the whole movie and another button that goes to the chapters menu is described in http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=23468
ggrussell
If you think this software is difficult to use, I wouldn't waste my time looking for anything easier. At one time, I owned about 10 different editors and authoring apps. I found Videowave/MyDVD to WAY easier to use than the competitors -- at least for me. Kevin B
Oh no it doesn't. At least not for me... ARRGH ! Apologies in advance if this is covered elsewhere in the forums and I just haven't been able to find it. I have EMC 9 full retail boxed version. All I want to do is create a menu title page for my home video project so I can navigate from the main screen to selected parts of the DVD. I have one file which I have split into three chapters using VideoWave. I have saved it as Production 3, under the default dmsd format. Now I open MyDVD, select File, then Open Project, and get the error message "There are no media files in this folder that match the filter settings." The Files Of Type pane gives me one option: MyDVD Projects (*.dmsd) which is the way I saved the project. I don't get it. BUT... if I select Add New Movie, like magic my Production 3 file is available to me, but the Edit Chapters option is grayed out. Thanks in advance for any help. Add New Movie is the only way to add the file, since it is a VideoWave .dmsm file, not a .dmsd file. To get the Edit Chapters to highlight, click on the title of your movie, in the Preview screen.
