AC3 audio file support

dmart55

Question

I just installed Easy CD & DVD Burning software (red box) and tried to burn a DVD of a video file shot with a Sony Handycam. When I try to create a DVD using the .mpg video file from the digital video camcorder, I receive the following message:

"One or more of the added files contain AC3 audio, which is not supported in this version of the product. The audio will be replaced by silence. Please see the Home Page for how to upgrade to a version with AC3 audio support."

Is this correct and if so, what version will support this added audio file? The box or "Getting Started Guide" doesn't say one way or another.

Please Advise.

In looking at posts in other areas, the ac3 ‘problem' seems to be with Sony camcorders...

If you Finalize your discs, the problem goes away.

If you process the files with the software that Sony includes, the ‘problem' goes away.

I don't have a Sony so I cannot play with this but re-read your camera manual and see what you can come up with.

The OP is using a Sony. That is the problem when you graft onto an existing thread but don't really have the same problem, equipment, etc...

You have to Finalize in the camcorder, not your PC. You also need to throughly read your camcorder manual and perhaps even contact them about this.

None of the gurus here have even seen the Red Box version, let alone run it, so we have NO first hand experience with it. Few have a camcorder with a disc. Having seen all the problem posts, I bought a new one last month and I can assure you it was tape!

In any case, poke around as I suggested and keep us informed.

There are 2 Easy CD & DVD Burning (in Red Box) products out there. The "Vista Compatible" stickered one is based on the v9 line of software. The other one is based on the v6 line. Open one of the apps and go to Help -> About and tell us what version it shows. Based on the message it gives you, it sounds like you have the one based on the v6 line.

This one is compatible with Windows Vista as well as XP and Windows 2000. I have XP on my computer. I don't really understand the lingo v6 line vs. v9 line, etc. Are you saying that if I have the software that is compatible with Vista, that should be able to burn a DVD of an mpg file with added AC3 audio files? If so, it isn't doing that. Thanks.

As I stated, there are two Red Box versions out there. They are both lighter versions of other products. The Vista Compatible one is based on the version 9 products, the other one is based on the version 6 line. That's why I asked you to check and post the version number it gives you in "About". The version 6 based one does not support AC3, whereas it's possible the version 9 one does.

dmart55: You must open one of the specific applications to use Help – About!!!

Larry has told you it is either V6 or V9. It cannot possibly be V3!

Guessing that is something you got from Home and those numbers mean nothing to us, although it points to V9 as Home in V6 reports V6!

Still this is not something we can guess on, give us the version number.
