MediaImport and Dazzle DVC90

challenger

Question

I have been searching the posts and trying solutions but still have problem. I have a Toshiba notebook, A 135-S4467, Vista (32) Home Premium, 1GB Ram. I have updated all the drivers I can find.

From Device Manager:

Display- Intel 945GM/GU, Intel, 4/13/2007, 7.14.10.1255.

Sound- Realtek High Definition Audio, Realtek, 7/18/2007, 6.0.1.5449.

Dazzle DVC90 Audio Device- Pinnacle, 12/12/2006, 1.2.5.0.

Dazzle DVC90 Video Device- Pinnacle, 4/6/2004, 1.1.406.0.

I can get good video, but no audio. (DVC90 was verified to work on XP)

I assume that Vista recognizes the h/w (device mngr), so why doesn't Roxio MediaImport?

Is there a Vista compatible tool or application that I can use to check the operation of DVC90 without Roxio MediaImport? I have try'd Win Movie Maker, but it does not see the DVC90 as a compatible device.

Thanks for any guidance you can give me.

I have it working in Vista and it captures just fine.At first I also couldn't get audio but lots of trying and I finally got it.Likewise it also works ok in XP.

Although this sometimes works when the computer doesn't see the device, it might help here also. Plug the DVC 90 into a USB port in the back of your computer; some of the ones in front don't have the power for the device. Shut down or remove any other USB devices that you don't need to have running.

Also try this:

Go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager >> Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.

It should appear as Dazzle DVC90 Audio Device, and Dazzle DVC90 Video Device

If not, the drivers were not installed properly.

It's a bit different path in Vista Steve but basically the same.Thing is in Vista mine says DVC90 Video Device and then another with just DVC90 Device, doesn't say audio even though it is.

Getting it working is a trick.I had Neil try the same drivers and it didn't work so I'm not sure how to get it working everytime.

Outside this topic, but will there be more digital camcorder compatibilities? Mine isn't on your list and I have to make due with Vista's media import application (which only allows me to import and save a .wmv files. GRRR!)

I hope my very 1st post helps!

Harry

Hi Harry, What camcorder do you have? There are some very knowledable people here that may be able to give you some advice. :)

By the way, welcome.

Thanks Steve and Terry, I have tried all of the suggestions with no change.

The device manager detects both DVC90 devices (Audio & Video) under Sound. I can import video, but no audio options available.

Maybe Bruce has the correct solution.

I remain hopeful that someone will/can come up with the correct sequence of steps to make this thing (DVC90 and EMC9) work as I am beyond the refund period.

Thanks again for your help.

I know this sounds crazy but when you capture are you not getting sound in a clip actually captured or just not in the preview? If it's just the preview try and hit options and make sure the audio isn't muted.

I know you're problem is probably even when you capture bu this was just in case.

If you try and capture with no audio it should bomb out after 15 sec or so.

Other than what we've already tried,Sorry,I have no more suggestions.Like I said it took me a few tries and combinations to get it working.Guess I should just consider myself lucky.

You need to got to the Pinnacle site and download the Vista drivers for the Dazzle.

I have downloaded the latest drivers I can find at Pinnacle for the DVC90

<http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Home+Video/Studio+Family/Studio+Plus+version+10+Support/Download+Area/Hardware+Installer+-Drivers/PCLEUSB2+-+HW+installer.htm?mode=documents>

PCLEUSB2.EXE (v1.0.10 3/25/07) Beta for Vista 32.

I was hoping someone with the same configuration could verify the driver information I provided.

If there are later drivers, could you help me find them?

challenger,I have the same drivers as you have listed and mine works just fine.It did take some doing but it works even though I'm not sure why.

Try unplugging the DVC90,going to add/remove in the control panel and uninstalling the Pinnacle entries.Maybe run a registry cleaner if you have one and reboot. This time run the PCLEUSB2.exe file first to install the drivers. Now plug the DVC in and see if it finds the drivers,if not point Windows at them and reboot and see what happens.Other than that I'm not sure anyone has any magical advice.I got it working after many tries and driver files.Another thing to try is going to the first page and searching the forums for DVC90.You'll find a pinned post about Roxio not finding the DVC.It has a link to some drivers you could try if the Pinnacle ones won't work.

Thanks for the response. Does your system work with the DVC90 in the Vista configuration?

Just knowing that the driver info is valid, gives me some confidence to keep trying.

I will try as you suggested.

I have been searching the forums both here at Roxio and Pinnacle Systems and know that this configuration has been a real problem.

I will let you know how I make out.

Thanks again.

There is a way to still capture the audio of your videos when importing them using the Dazzle. It's a ghetto-type rig, but it works (and it's simple)...

-Plug the audio-video source (VCR, TV, camcorder, etc.) to the Dazzle's video input (yellow RCA or S-video)

-Go to Radio Shack and get a adapter cord... 1/8" male - to - RCA male (the red and white ends)

-Insert the red and white RCA end to the AV source and the 1/8" end to the LINE-IN port of your computer (sound card, port on side of laptop, or just depending on your system)

-In MediaImport, you simply have to select the audio source (which will probably be "line-in").

Basically, the audio inputs on the Dazzle are of no use... at least in Vista. Hey, it gets the job done! I received my DVC90 on a promotional by Roxio, and compared to the other analog-to-digital devices that are bulkier and higher in price, I'm just glad it does what I want - put all my home VCR tapes on digital media.
