Overlay Duration

Roxann (sis)

Question

I think I know the answer to this, but.....I love this forum because ya all are so smart!! I have gotten so many nifty answers that have made my 'dvd business' very pleasant!!

EMC9 I inserted color screens in many videowave frames & arranged the photo on them, along with text, in order to eliminate the black space at the sides and top of the pics.....well, then I decided to change the duration of the stills to 8.04, to give the customer a chance to read the text. Well, as you probably know, the default for most overlays are 4.17.

 The BIG question: is there a place I can change the default duration of overlays, like we do for stills in trim, in one swoop...or do I keep doing as I have...changing one by one?

Thanks again!!

Thank you sknis and grandpabruce. Wondered also if there's a way to put "my" pic on, in place of my favorite Star Wars woman?

I tried to ad my own pic, but this is the message I get. "Sorry, the board administrator has not enabled your permissions for this part of the control panel."

I think it is one by one. :(

The overlay seems to be the duration of the original color panel and when you increase the duration of the panel, then the duration of the overlay does not change. There is no default to 4.17 unless that was was what you had for the image duration.

BTW, I use 8 seconds for the durations for most of my slide shows. I find that the longer time allows people to focus and find the interesting part of the photo.

You are welcome. To change your avatar, click on My Controls, up above. Then click on Edit Avatar Settings on the left side in the screen that comes up.

Click on your current avatar, then click on Remove Avatar, at the bottom of the screen. Then, put your click on the Browse button to the right of the Upload a new image from your computer, box. Browse to the picture that you want to use, and click ok on it, then click on the Update Avatar button.

There is more than one way to adjust the time of the overlay. If you are in Storyline, insert your color panel, then adjust whatever length of time that you want that, say 8 seconds. You can do that by clicking in the duration box up in the Preview pane.

Now, click on Tmeline, then highlight the panel, and click on the Internal Tracks button, and insert your first picture on OVL 1. Above, in the Preview panel, you will see a narrow rectangular bar below your inserted picture. Grab the house shaped marker, farthest right, and drag it to the end of the bar, to the right.

The duration of your inserted picture now matches the same length of time of your color panel.

Now, click on Internal Tracks again, to get back to Timeline view.

Repeat as necessary.
