can't capture anything

Question

I am using a 9800 ati all in wonder card trying to capture from my vcr, everytime I open the capture program I get the message Operation buil on capture manager failed - failed to build preview graph. Also when I first open any of the roxio a file called DAO trys to install but can't. According to control panel add remove DAO is already installed. I can capture using windows movie maker and pinnacle but when I import to roxio and burn DVD I get no sound when I play it on the tv DVD player but it has sound when played on the computer. This program use to work fine. I have updated my video card drivers this year. Should I go back to the original drivers? I tried a fix that I found on the site but it did not work. It was to go to admin tools in xp pro go to services , media center receiving service and disable it. I could not find it in the service file, did find it on my task bar and shut it down but still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have 40 family movie video vcr tapes I need to burn to DVD.

Thanks Steve

1st off go to the multimedia section of the forums at rage3d.com . You'll find specific info on the drivers and problems encountered with different versions, along with which versions are recommended. The DAO software you refer to is a necessary component of ATI's MMC -- the latest version (12/06) will most likely not work with your card.

You can also try using the media import program with EMC9, or any of the PVR &/or capture software linked at videowave.com. [For PVR software, go to the site for that software and double check compatibility.]

As far as audio goes, ATI software usually captures audio in mpg format. I'm really guessing here, but you might try a short test converting the audio to something else before importing the mpg file into Videowave/MyDVD... Maybe it's having some sort of problem with the original format? If the DVDs play on your PC, can you check and see what format the audio is in -- it should be ac3. If it is AC3, could the audio settings for your DVD player need changing?

Thanks I will try these
