Brendon
What's it for, Gary? Or is it a case of 'those who need it will already know' ?

Brendon
Windows (Vista/XP/2K) The LightScribe System Software (LSS) is required for proper operation of your LightScribe system. Updates are released regularly to support new hardware or recently introduced LightScribe CDs and DVDs, and will ensure optimal and reliable operation of your LightScribe Labeling system. Your LightScribe product manufacturer will have the best knowledge of your specific configuration and needs, and they are recommended as your first source of updates whenever possible. This limited support universal version of the LightScribe System Software offered here has not been specifically tested by your hardware provider, and is provided as an alternative should you have problems with obtaining an update. - for those who don't want to actually go there to see what it's for. cdanteek
Unless they greatly improve the contrast of LightScribe or LabelFlash and it's cost, it will fade away soon. The HP Photosmart D5160 CD & DVD printer at $79.00 makes LightScribe or Labelflash look like drawing on concrete with white chalk! cd
ggrussell
I agree, but I'm sure there will be users of both. Lightscribe doesn't require anything other than the burner.

ggrussell
Just like the HP printer requires printable CDs/DVDs....
REDWAGON
Just like the HP printer requires printable CDs/DVDs.... Agreed Gary, but when you compare the results of the two, there is no contest !! The HP D-5160 wins hands down. I have two computers that have a lightscribe drive and I used it for printing labels till I ran out of the media, and now I'm glad it's all gone. Lightscribe labels are horrible to say the least. Even with the update they had to improve the contrast, they still look like s* !! On the other hand I have the HP D-5160 printer and other than a bad cartridge that came with it when it was new, it has worked beautiful. (BTW, HP not only sent me a new set of cartridges, but sent another brand new (not reconditioned) printer !!!). You're right cd, I think Lightscribe will wither on the vine eventually. I can't see anyway in the near future where they will be able to perfect a way of making a drive that will print all colors on a label via an optical drive. Frank... And not take 20 minutes to burn the label you can print in 30 secs. Or burn the CD/DVD in 3-4. I never could understand why I can burn the whole DVD data in a few minutes and it takes 4-5 times longer to do the label.
Brendon
It's getting very hard to find lightscribe media where I am, and they're very expensive. On the other hand, printable DVDs are plentiful, at no extra charge.
