How to keep track titles

cfbuser

Question

I record a Vinyl LP using CD Spin Doctor, split the tracks and name the individual songs. Then I burn all to a CD using Toast Titanium 8, with the option "CD Text" checked.

After that, I open iTunes and want to import all the songs and convert them into MP3 files. No problem, but iTunes does not read the title info etc. from the CD. And, of course, the record is not found in the title database CDDB. What is the best/easiest way to fix this? Can I import the info from Toast or CD Spin Doctor? I know I could make an MP3-CD of these songs and probably keep the info that way - but this is not what I want at this moment.

Thanks, Christian

Many thanks, tsantee.

But without this "CD Text to CD Info", and after wasting some CD-R, I succeed in having the tracks titles read by iTunes (not the Title of the CD).

I am not very clever with my Mac G4, specially with OS X. Perhaps Toast 8 and iTunes talk together into my Mac (?).

The next operation I will do is to put those burned CDs into another Mac ....

Maybe something is added in Toast 8 to enable this. I'll look into it. I know that Toast 8 can read the CD Text from the CDs but I'm not aware of the info being automatically transferred to the cdinfo database file for iTunes unless the CD matches one that is in the online CDDB.

This is the process I use to import a vinyl record, create a normal Audio CD with CD-Text and also to import into iTunes with automated track name lookup.

I am using: Spin Doctor 2.0.2.333t, Toast 8.0.3 and iTunes 8.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.4.11

1. In Spin Doctor

<ol type='1'><li>Import record into Spin Doctor and identify tracks</li><li>Select "Send All Tracks to Toast audio CD" from the Toast menu</li><li>This launches Toast into the "Audio CD" function which lists all the tracks as "Untitled"</li></ol>

2. In Toast

<ol type='1'><li> Select "Save As Disc Image" from the File menu to name and save a disc image file</li><li> Select "Mount Disk Image" from the Utilities menu and mount the disc image created in 1.</li><li> iTunes automatically launches when the disc image mounts and looks up the album and track names</li></ol>

3. In iTunes

<ol type='1'><li> Import CD (this is where I get my mp3 versions of the tracks)</li></ol>

4. Back in Toast

<ol type='1'><li> Click on "Copy" in the list on the left side of the window (choices are Data, Audio, Video, Copy)</li><li> Select "Image File" in the "Read From" popup menu (choices are "Built-in CD/RW" and "Image File <path>")</li><li> ---Note that "Copy Summary" now lists actual album title</li><li> Click the Record button (this is where I get my normal audio CD version of the tracks)</li><li> ---If you have "Add CD-Text" checked then album and track names will be written</li></ol>

This avoids manual entry of album/track names.

How about for Toast 11 It has areas to put in your own track info but after burning no titles?

Hello, I'm quite new burning with Toast.

Believe it or not, I burned an audio CD with CD-Text and iTunes reads perfectly the titles I wrote on the Toast window. Only the title is not read. It's "Mon CD" (My CD, in french).

Infortunately this phenomen is no more working. I don't remember how I did.

I didn't use the " CD Text to CD Info Applescript " tsantee was talking of. By the way, could you show me the very url of this script ? I didn't find it.

Thanks

Maurice
