DVD/CD drive read problem with EMC 8

shadownet

Question

Recently purchased a pair of HP dvd 1040i multiformat burners, installed them and they work fine, but when EMC 8 is installed Windows will not recognize when a CD is put in the drive. Tried the disable Rxfilter workaround thinking it might have been a variant of that issue but no luck. Also tried the clean uninstall (the one involving cleaning out the registry) and reinstall but also no luck. Running under XP with SP2. Any ideas?

How are the drives connected, SATA or IDE? Are they on the same controller? Are they set correct Master, Slave, Cable Select? What does Device Manager show under DVD-CD Rom Drives, any error codes or yellow exclamation marks?

cd

Both are on the secondary IDE chain one master one slave. The drives both show up under device manager and are not showing any errors or yellow exclamation points. The annoying thing is, is that with EMC8 installed the drives will only play or read DVDs but when EMC8 is uninstalled the drives will read and play both CDs and DVDs. EMC8 however can read and write to CDs.
