Extract video from DVD for editing?

LovelandBear

Question

Hi,

I am looking for software that will allow me to extract video from my DVD's that contain my old home movies. I had transferred those video's to the DVD's from VHS tapes that contained those home movies. I did that using a DVD / VHS recorder unit. I would like to be able to extract certain parts of those video's from the DVD, edit them (color correction enhancement, subtitles etc) then save them to my hard drive in a format that I could use for emailing, or posting on Youtube type sites.

Is EMC9 what I need? Or are there other suggestions for doing that?

Many thanks for any help you can provide!

Will the standard version of EC9 do that, or do I need the "Deluxe" version? I got an email today saying I can purchase the Standard Suite for $49.99 ($50.00 off ). If the standard version will do what I want to do, I'll do what you suggest and download the trial version. I have an HP a1350y computer with 240 GB HD and same size external for backups, 3 GHZ Pentium 4 with 1 GB of ram and NVIDIA GeFORCE 6200 SE video card.

Thanks so much for the help!!! Let me know if you'd be so kind!

The core video related apps are the same in the two versions (Videowave, MtDVD...). the main difference is that the Deluxe has a few additional utility apps, some additional theme content, and the DVC90 USB capture device. IMHO, the standard EMC 9 suite will do what you want. I suggest you try out the EMC 9 trial version.

MANY THANKS FOR THE INFO! Looks like that $49 deal is perfect timing for me.

Are you aware of any problems with the "download" version vs the CD version?

No, they're the same. You would just want to make sure you keep backup copies of the downloaded files (there would be 2 of them) in case you ever need to re-install, repair, or modify the install. They are only available for download for a short amount of time.

EMC 9 will do all of that. Here is a demo video (cutting out a section of video).

Copy the VOB files to your hard drive and add them to Video Wave, edit as desired and then output them in what ever format you want. In some cases you would have to rename the files from (name).VOB to (name).mpg.

The question now becomes what about your computer hardware. It has to be reasonably good to work with the program. Look at the minimum requirements and if you meet or exceed them, download the 30 day trial. from the V9 trial forum. That will let you know if it is right for you.

I'm suggestion EMC 9 since it is a suite of programs that has audio/video/back up/ label printing and other capabilities. If you are absolutely positive that you won't want to do more, You can look at the stand alone version of Video Wave 8.or MyDVD 9 I would not recommend it unless you were really strapped for cash.
