Convert and transfer Video to ipod?

Lee999

Question

Hello to all,

I recently bought this FUN product and most of it was simple and straightforward, however I am having one issue:

I go into the 'Convert Video' section and add a file to put on my IPOD, of course choosing 'ipod' on the drop down box but when I try to send the file to my connected ipod it asks me for a playlist and I can't type anything into it or right click, etc.

Am I missing a step? I've done fine with the Audio Importing it from Itunes and other folders and then adding it right back to Itunes, but with video going to Ipod I can't seem to get past the 'playlist box' that pops up and is empty.

If anyone knows what step I am missing or just what I can do to place the video's on my Ipod.

Thanks!

Lee.

Sorry, it took me awhile to realize that convert video is really Disc Copier. Let me get this straight, you open the application and selected "Video Compilation" mode, "iPod format" and put a dot in the "Portable Device Media" You then selected copy and a window opened and you selected your iPod. So far correct?

Is this where you get the playlist request? or do you get it at some other time? I don't have an iPod but have copied stuff to my phone's memory card using the same procedure (different options).

I don't personally have an iPod so I can't try it quickly.Like I said a friend has one that I load for him. He'll be bringing it by in the next day or so and I'l try then.

All I've been doing is creating the movie and outputting as an iPod file and then just dragging and dropping it into the movie section of his iPod.This works just fine.I'll try the direct route as soon as I can.

Hello,

Well here is where I am at now:

I still get the Blank Playlist each time I am choosing Portable Device and Ipod but if I go to Ipod and File Folder I get a 'playlist' which is basically my Ipod. So what I've been doing is saving it in a folder and when you are about to convert the video you can tell it to add to your ITunes playlist and then I have to drag it from the movie library on Itunes into my plugged in IPod.

(A nice young man PM'D me telling me that he has been having the same problem and explained to me that he does it this way so Kudos to him for at least getting me to this point) :-)

Also, I do now choose 'Disc Copier' instead of opening the Roxio total program and it seems to work quicker so I Appreciate that suggestion.

Bottom Line Here: I still can't seem to get to choose my IPod in the playlist if I am on Portable Device and IPod. Blank Playlist that just won't let me have that last step to go directly into it. However since, at least, I can save video's to a folder and ITunes than just drag it in, I'm somewhat content as it's 'something' and I'm not just stuck.

How did it go with your Buddy's IPOD? Were you able to do it how I explained it? What is his process for getting video onto his 'pod?

...Sounds like we are now doing the same or similar type of things to get video in there...

(DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink will open the .ISO file as a roxio file and you can convert it to MPEG 4 and add it to your IPOD... (I've heard). For friends who don't have this product/can't afford it just get MPEG Stream from Squared5.com to convert things for IPOD/PSP and Audacity to record ANY Audio from your computer and export it to WAV or MP3 or OGG Vorbis, etc.)

Anyway I Sincerely Appreciate all of your help and if anyone has an idea for that final step of letting me choose my IPod as I'm on 'Portable Device' and 'IPOD' on Disc Copier/Video Compilation.

Thank You ALL!!!

Lee.

PS. Could it be anything to do with Virus Protection? I have SpySweeper and Norton Anti-Virus 2007 but why would that be the cause since I can do all other parts of it... (Boy I bet I'm just missing one simple thing and this is all something I'm overlooking and I could have done this 'correctly' all the time I've tried this. But I want to find out what the 'correct' way is) LOL HELP LOL

Hi,

Yes, as soon as I hit copy a new window opens and asks for a playlist. I type letters and numbers and it won't let me add anything, it won't let me choose anything, all I can do is hit escape or return and I'm "Stuck" where I was till the empty playlist window pops up again.

It looks like I should just hit copy and the video should go right onto my IPod but it doesn't do anything but show me that playlist menu. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong or what step I missed. I mean I can't believe that it's that hard so it has to be a step I have missed.

I do have ITunes open at the same time and it's XP Pentium D 250 Hard drive and 1gb of ram HP computer.

Any thoughts or ideas, like how you get the info onto your phone, would be Most Appreciated :-)

Thanks for the reply.

Take Care!

Have you tried just outputting the movie to a file on your hard drive and then using iTubes to put it on your iPod?This is how I did it with a friends iPod.

Hi,

Yes, I used EMC9 to convert a file to Mpeg4 ...(can also use MPeg Stream from Squared5.com for free and Audacity.com a FREE windows media player look alike to record ANY audio on your computer to a wav, mp3, or ogg file)....

Anyway after I converted the file I put it into ITunes and right clicked 'Convert Selection for Ipod'. But that is many more steps than, in my opinion, I should have to do. I purchased this product that says I can transfer video Directly to my Ipod and that is what I so desperately want to do.

It is most likely my fault for I am missing a step but it keeps asking me to: Select Destination Playlist in the window that pops up. Now if I had some text added to that empty window- or IF I could add text, etc.- So I'm stuck on that particular part. Hit copy, choose Drive L (my ipod) and then the 'Select Destination Playlist' window pops up with nothing inside and I can't type or choose anything so I repeat this scenario over and over and unfortunately for me, I've yet to see the HOW to create a playlist in the user manual, the tutorial, or by Googling it.

I Thank You for your help and I do currently take the steps you recommended but I want to simplify it and just transfer whichever video right to IPod as EMC9 -Full Version- says on the box/manual I can.

Appreciate Your Posting here as any and all help is Welcomed :-)

Have you tried creating a playlist on the iPod first, or is there already a video playlist on the iPod?

Hello,

First Thank You for posting here!

To answer your question, I did create a playlist- (Playlist 1) after the fact so I will try to see if that will work. But that 'empty box' that keeps popping up in roxio is just that empty and won't ask me to create a new playlist, choose a playlist, type anything in it, etc.

I will try your suggestion as soon as I finish typing this but Unless 'Playlist 1' that I did create and put on my ipod shows up I'm still stuck in nowheresville.

IF this works I'll reply here...

Other than that do you have an IPod and Easy CD Creator 9 and has this worked for you? (Curious).

Thanks again for your time :-)

Hi Again,

I just tried to do it all over again with new playlists on the actual IPod as well as on ITunes and it doesn't want to work. I even left the blank "Select Playlist Destination" window open for a long time to see if 'something would appear' but nothing. It's a small window and the 'OK' choice is greyed out and the 'Cancel' button is my only choice.

Has anyone out there either:

1. Run into this same problem and its just one or two different- or newer- steps to fix it?

2. Go home plug in the IPod into your computer, open Roxio choose to have Video Compilation up and than add a movie select IPod and Portable Media Device, Hit 'Copy' and it transfers your video(s) that simply?

I can use MPeg Stream to convert to Mpeg4 and than use ITunes to convert/add the video but I thought this would work faster and save all but one step... 'Copy' to portable device.

There was one Gentleman who mentioned something about a different way that he uses for his phone to get video/audio but ,as of yet, musn't have had the time to reply to his first response. I'm hoping that another way will work.

Ok Thanks for your Help and I'll keep trying. Its now more of I don't like not fully understanding than the irritation of trying to do this.

:-)

Lee, when I copied to my phone, I was able to do it a simply as connecting it and copying it to the memory card. I never got a question about play list so it may be an iPod thing. Perhaps it is not seeing the files that are in Disc Copier/Compilation mode/ left side of the screen. Do you have enough space on that unit's memory? The files are not DRM protected are they?

Try this. Open Disc Copier from the Windows Start programs path rather than from the home page or from the way you are now opening the program. There seems to be several application where the program doesn't open fully unless you start it from Windows.
