EyeTV recordings - audio sync problems with Toast

scgf

Question

When I burn a DVD from EyeTV recordings I get audio sync problems when playing back the DVDs.

I have tried:

Burning a DVD by dragging the EyeTV files from the media browser. No good.

Exporting the EyeTV files to the desktop, then dragging into Toast. No good.

I have burned first to a disc image.

In all cases the audio is not in sync - often by as much as a second.

I have checked the original EyeTV recordings and they are fine, it is only after Toast has done its business that the sync is out.

The original recordings are in PAL and recorded from Freeview (terrestrial digital TV in the UK )on an EyeTV 400. Toast is set to PAL. Audio is set for Dolby Digital - I haven't tried PCM - just doing that now.

Anyone else having this problem?

Hmmm. Interestingly I had a go at making a DVD with Visual Hub, using exactly the same source files - exported from EyeTV (supposedly for Toast).

The resulting DVD had perfect lip sync throughout.

The problem is that Visual Hub doesn't do nice menus like Toast :-(

OK. No-one else has this problem. Fair enough. I just replaced my 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac and the problem is still there.

Is there an alternative to Toast? Anything out there that will take mpegs or similar and create a DVD with menus?

Could someone who uses EyeTV and Roxio Toast 8 confirm that they don't have a problem with lip sync?

I have no way to test the kind of source file you are getting from Freeview. What is its resolution? Several posts in the past few months have complained about problems relating to DVDs burned using PAL video captured OTA with EyeTV. An update to Toast hopefully will come soon and maybe it will address your issue (although I have no knowledge of what it will fix).

As for other applications that use MPEG video sources and create menus there are two I know about. One is DVD Studio Pro and the other is CaptyDVD 2. With CaptyDVD 2 the MPEG 2 source files must be either 720x576, 704x576, 352x576 or 352x288 or the video won't be accepted by the application.
