Emc 7.5 Importing .mov File

briscoem

Question

I am sure there is an obvious answer but I want to import a .MOV file from my digital camera so I can export to a MPEG file.

I have a Native Audio track selected but I am not hearing any audio - it plays OK when I play the .MOV file directly without using EMC. Sure that I am missing something simple!

Using a mov file and getting an audio is a hit or miss situation. Some people have had no problems and others (like me) cannot get the audio to work. My digital still camera takes 60 second movies in that format. I have loaded the latest version of quicktime on my computer but still no luck. I don't think it is a codec problem but it is probably a problem where EMC looks for the codecs. ( I cheat and use another video editing program to convert the mov files to avi (or mpg) and then bring them into EMC.) I have never seen any "fix" for this problem -- sorry. :) If you find a solution, let me know-- it would save me several steps.

How are you connecting your digital camera to the PC. If you're using a USB cable (which is probably the only option that you have with a digital camera), you're going to have to import the video with the software that came with the camera. I think Windows Movie Maker will import it too.

EMC7 looks for a webcam on your USB port and it won't import sound and video from that port.

Once you've transfered (copied) the .mov file to your hard drive (use the software provided with the camera is usually easiest), you should just be able to open it in Videowave and output it as an mpeg.

What part of EMC are you opening the file with, or are you saying there is no sound when you open the file in Videowave?

Do you have Quicktime installed (at least v 6.5 as i recall)?

That fits with what I am getting.

I can run the MOV in Quicktime (6.5.2 I think) and I get vision & sound OK.

I import into a new Production in Videowave 7

A vision track and sound track appear.

I can preview the video track oK

But if preview the audio track there is nothing there i.e. silence.

Good to see that someone else is getting the same problem!
