I have MPEG-2 files recorded on a Canon DC40 in widescreen format (16:9). When this is imported into MyDVD 9 Studio Premier, the resulting file appears to be 4:3 format with the image squashed horizontally (similar to the posting "Long Faces".
MyDVD 9 is supposed to be able to handle wide screen format video.
